Many people in the church they ask about what sin is it's a struggle to understand what sin is and over and over again in the church we say everyone's a sinner but it's hard to understand that what is sin and what makes me a sinner right?
교회 안에서 많은 사람들이 죄가 무엇인지 묻고, 죄를 이해하는 데 어려움을 겪습니다. 교회에서는 반복해서 “모든 사람이 죄인이다”라고 말하지만, 죄가 무엇인지, 그리고 무엇이 나를 죄인으로 만드는지 이해하기는 어렵습니다.
You know if you ask children this they'll say a sin is just breaking the rules it's going against the law perhaps right
they're not wrong but who's rules who's law?
아이들에게 물어보면 죄는 단지 규칙을 어기는 것이거나 법을 어기는 것이라고 말할 것입니다. 틀린 말은 아니지만, 누구의 규칙이고 누구의 법인가 하는 질문이 남습니다.
And I think this is very important
그리고 저는 이것이 매우 중요하다고 생각합니다.
the word that we see for sin in the Bible often the word that's used even though there's many different words the one word is usually used to denote missing the mark
as we're shooting an arrow and we miss the mark we miss the target
and I think that's a great representation of what sin is.
성경에서 죄를 나타내는 단어는 여러 가지가 있지만, 자주 쓰이는 한 단어는 ‘과녁을 빗나감’을 의미합니다. 마치 화살을 쏘았는데 과녁을 맞히지 못하는 것처럼, 이것이 죄를 잘 설명한다고 생각합니다.
God has this standard for us
God has this mark for and we miss it
we fall short of it we put our arrows elsewhere and every time we do that that's it
하나님께서는 우리를 위해 기준과 표적을 두셨지만, 우리는 그것을 맞히지 못하고 부족하며, 다른 곳에 화살을 쏩니다. 우리가 그렇게 할 때마다 그것이 곧 죄입니다.
it's not just breaking an arbitrary set of rules it's missing God's mark falling short of what God wants for.
그것은 단순히 임의의 규칙을 어기는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 표적을 놓치고 하나님이 원하시는 것에 미치지 못하는 것입니다.
Ah today what we see is the you know the terrible consequences of sin not only through one person right the king but everyone it affects everyone and that's the nastiness and that's the terribleness that we say when we comes with sin.
오늘 우리가 보는 것은 죄의 끔찍한 결과입니다. 그것은 한 사람, 즉 왕뿐 아니라 모든 사람에게 영향을 미치며, 이것이 죄가 가져오는 추악함과 무서움입니다.
AH So with a more repentant heart with a more humble heart let's listen to today's passage.
그러므로 더 회개하는 마음과 더 겸손한 마음으로 오늘의 말씀을 들어봅시다.

Ezekiel Chapter 17 verses 11 to 24
| 11 The word of the LORD came to me: 여호와의 말씀이 또 내게 임하여 이르시되 12 “Say to this rebellious people, ‘Do you not know what these things mean?’ Say to them: ‘The king of Babylon went to Jerusalem and carried off her king and her nobles, bringing them back with him to Babylon. 너는 반역하는 족속에게 묻기를 너희가 이 비유를 깨닫지 못하겠느냐 하고 그들에게 말하기를 바벨론 왕이 예루살렘에 이르러 왕과 고관을 사로잡아 바벨론 자기에게로 끌어가고 13 Then he took a member of the royal family and made a treaty with him, putting him under oath. He also carried away the leading men of the land, 그 왕족 중에서 하나를 택하여 언약을 세우고 그에게 맹세하게 하고 또 그 땅의 능한 자들을 옮겨 갔나니 14 so that the kingdom would be brought low, unable to rise again, surviving only by keeping his treaty. 이는 나라를 낮추어 스스로 서지 못하고 그 언약을 지켜야 능히 서게 하려 하였음이거늘 15 But the king rebelled against him by sending his envoys to Egypt to get horses and a large army. Will he succeed? Will he who does such things escape? Will he break the treaty and yet escape? 그가 사절을 애굽에 보내 말과 군대를 구함으로 바벨론 왕을 배반하였으니 형통하겠느냐? 이런 일을 행한 자가 피하겠느냐? 언약을 배반하고야 피하겠느냐? 16 ‘As surely as I live,’ declares the Sovereign LORD, ‘he shall die in Babylon, in the land of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised and whose treaty he broke. 주 여호와의 말씀이니라, 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 바벨론 왕이 그를 왕으로 세웠거늘 그가 맹세를 저버리고 언약을 배반하였은즉 그 왕이 거주하는 곳 바벨론에서 왕과 함께 있다가 죽을 것이라 17 Pharaoh with his mighty army and great horde will be of no help to him in war, when ramps are built and siege works erected to destroy many lives. 대적이 토성을 쌓고 사다리를 세우고 많은 사람을 멸절하려 할 때에 바로가 그 큰 군대와 많은 무리로도 그 전쟁에 그를 도와 주지 못하리라 18 He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Because he had given his hand in pledge and yet did all these things, he shall not escape. 그가 이미 손을 내밀어 언약하였거늘 맹세를 업신여겨 언약을 배반하고 이 모든 일을 행하였으니 피하지 못하리라 19 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘As surely as I live, I will repay him for despising my oath and breaking my covenant. 그러므로 주 여호와의 말씀이니라, 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 그가 내 맹세를 업신여기고 내 언약을 배반하였은즉 내가 그 죄를 그 머리에 돌리되 20 I will spread my net for him, and he will be caught in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment on him there because he was unfaithful to me. 그 위에 내 그물을 치며 내 올무에 걸리게 하여 끌고 바벨론으로 가서 나를 반역한 그 반역을 거기에서 심판할지며 21 All his choice troops will fall by the sword, and the survivors will be scattered to the winds. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken. 그 모든 군대에서 도망한 자들은 다 칼에 엎드러질 것이요, 그 남은 자는 사방으로 흩어지리니 나 여호와가 이것을 말한 줄을 너희가 알리라 22 “‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되, 내가 백향목 꼭대기에서 높은 가지를 꺾어다가 심으리라. 내가 그 높은 새 가지 끝에서 연한 가지를 꺾어 높고 우뚝 솟은 산에 심되 23 On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches. 이스라엘 높은 산에 심으리니, 그 가지가 무성하고 열매를 맺어서 아름다운 백향목이 될 것이요, 각종 새가 그 아래에 깃들이며 그 가지 그늘에 살리라 24 All the trees of the forest will know that I the LORD bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. “‘I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.’” 들의 모든 나무가 나 여호와는 높은 나무를 낮추고 낮은 나무를 높이며 푸른 나무를 말리고 마른 나무를 무성하게 하는 줄 알리라. 나 여호와는 말하고 이루느니라 하라 |
You Zedekiah was placed as king of Israel of Judah by Babylon but he broke his covenant with them and he turned to Egypt for help.
시드기야는 바벨론에 의해 유다 왕으로 세워졌지만, 그들과 맺은 언약을 깨고 애굽에 도움을 구했습니다.
And Zedekiah thought you know as these two superpowers on opposite ends Babylon and Egypt
I could play them against one another right?
그리고 시드기야는 서로 대립하는 두 초강대국인 바벨론과 애굽을 서로 이용할 수 있다고 생각했습니다.
I could sign this treaty with Babylon and then go behind their back and just you know unite with Egypt and fight right?
바벨론과 조약을 맺은 뒤, 그들을 배신하고 애굽과 손잡아 싸울 수 있다고 여긴 것입니다.
And they had all these things you know that he was planning and yet what God says is that this is a betrayal
그가 이런 모든 계획을 세웠지만, 하나님은 이것이 배신이라고 말씀하셨습니다.
not only of Babylon but actually betrayal of him because it is God who placed Zedekiah there you know in Verse 16 It says as surely as I live declares the sovereign Lord He shall die in Babylon in the land of the king who put him on the throne whose oath he despised and whose treaty he broke.
그것은 단지 바벨론에 대한 배신이 아니라, 그를 왕위에 세우신 하나님을 배신한 것이었습니다. 16절에 “나 주 여호와가 말하노니… 그 왕위에 앉힌 왕의 땅 바벨론에서 죽으리라”고 하셨습니다.
You know there are many times we look around and we don't really think that God is in charge right?
우리는 주변을 둘러보며 종종 하나님이 주관자라고 생각하지 않을 때가 있습니다.
Like I am here where I am you know because of who I am
내가 지금 이 자리에 있는 것은 나 자신 때문이라고 생각합니다.
because what I've done right
because of my talents
because of my success
because I worked hard
and people everywhere they're in their stations because of you know the choices that they make right
It's not wrong but guess what God's in charge God is sovereign let us never forget that God is in control of everything and everyone He is our sovereign king and Lord Right and Zedekiah He forgot that and because of that there was this great sin not only in him but in the land
내가 해온 일, 재능, 성공, 노력 때문이라고 생각하고, 사람들도 각자의 선택에 따라 그 자리에 있다고 여깁니다. 틀린 말은 아니지만, 모든 것과 모든 사람을 주관하시는 분은 하나님이십니다. 하나님은 우리의 주권자요 왕이십니다. 시드기야는 이것을 잊었고, 그로 인해 그의 마음뿐 아니라 온 땅에 큰 죄가 임했습니다.
You know what we need to understand is that pride comes before the fall
You know Adam right in the beginning first pages of Genesis He sins he commits this sin
one decision and he brings sin into this world through humans Right?
우리가 알아야 할 것은 교만이 멸망에 앞선다는 것입니다. 창세기 첫 장면에서 아담은 단 한 번의 선택으로 죄를 지었고, 그로 인해 인류에게 죄가 들어왔습니다.
You know what was that sin right?
그 죄가 무엇이었을까요?
He ate from the tree that you know is not supposed to be disobeyed.
그는 먹지 말아야 할 나무의 열매를 먹었습니다.
God he blames Eve there's a whole bunch of different sins there but guess what the ultimate sin there right if you break it down to what Adam did is pride
아담은 하나님께서 주신 여자 하와를 탓했는데, 거기에는 여러 가지 죄가 있지만, 결국 아담이 지은 가장 큰 죄는 ‘교만’이었습니다.
He wanted to be his own master He wanted to be a God for himself He wanted to deny God's power That's pride is saying that I know better
You know God you might have these plans for me but guess what God I know better right?
그는 자신의 주인이 되고 싶었고, 스스로 신이 되고자 하였으며, 하나님의 권능을 부인하고자 했습니다. 이것이 교만입니다. “하나님, 주께서 내게 이런 계획을 갖고 계시지만, 내가 더 잘 압니다”라고 말하는 것이죠.
Yes Jesus did all these things for me but guess what it doesn't matter to me
That's pride speaking
That's saying the same thing that Adam did that I'm in charge of my own life I don't need anyone especially you God to tell me what to do.
예수님께서 나를 위해 모든 것을 하셨지만, “그게 나에겐 중요하지 않다”라고 말하는 것이 교만입니다. 그것은 아담이 했던 것과 같은 말로, “내 삶은 내가 책임진다. 누구도, 특히 하나님도 내게 무엇을 하라고 할 필요 없다”는 것입니다.
You are in control of me at church
교회 안에서만 하나님이 나를 다스리십니다.
You're in control of me when I do Bible study but you're not in control of me in my life That's pride and pride always comes before the fall it leads to devastating consequences
You know our plans sometimes they may seem very strong like bulletproof amazing plans
but without God they will always collapse.
성경 공부할 때만 하나님이 나를 다스리시고, 내 삶 전체는 그렇지 않다면 그것이 교만입니다. 교만은 반드시 멸망 전에 오며, 파괴적인 결과를 낳습니다. 우리의 계획이 아무리 완벽하고 견고해 보여도, 하나님이 없으면 반드시 무너집니다.
In verse twenty This is what he says I says I will spread my net for him and he will be caught in my snare I will bring him to Babylon
20절에서 하나님은 “그 위에 내 그물을 치며 내 올무에 걸리게 하여 끌고 바벨론으로 가겠다”고 말씀하십니다.
and execute judgment on him there because he was unfaithful to me That's what happens to Zedekiah His rebellion fails He's captured He's taken to Babylon and the Kingdom withers because it was rooted in pride and it wasn't rooted in God
그리고 그가 내게 신실하지 않았으므로 거기서 심판하겠다고 하십니다. 이것이 시드기야에게 일어난 일입니다. 그의 반역은 실패했고, 그는 사로잡혀 바벨론으로 끌려갔으며, 나라는 교만에 뿌리를 두었고 하나님께 뿌리내리지 않았기에 쇠퇴했습니다.
You know this isn't just about politics The outside world may look at this and they'll say Oh this is politics right Babylon Egypt You know Judah all of that stuff no
이것은 단순한 정치 이야기가 아닙니다. 세상 사람들은 바벨론, 애굽, 유다 간의 정치 문제로 볼 수 있겠지만, 그렇지 않습니다.
this is pride This is what happens when we try to build security on our own terms in our own ways.
이것은 교만이며, 우리가 우리 방식과 조건으로 안전을 세우려 할 때 벌어지는 일입니다.
So today I want to ask you right where in your life right are you trying to build your own security?
그래서 오늘 여러분께 묻고 싶습니다. 여러분의 삶에서 어디에서 자신의 안전을 스스로 세우려 하고 있습니까?
Where in your life are you trying to take full control Right
where in your life are you denying the presence of God?
여러분의 삶에서 어디에서 전적인 통제권을 쥐려 하고, 어디에서 하나님의 임재를 부인하고 있습니까?
You know if you think about it there might be a lot of different places that you might not actually know that you are doing this.
곰곰이 생각해 보면, 여러분이 알지 못하는 사이에도 이런 일을 하고 있는 영역이 많을 수 있습니다.
You know recently I was watching a golf right?
최근에 저는 골프 경기를 보고 있었습니다.
I like to watch golf I don't like to play it but I like to watch it and there's this number one golfer His name is Scottie Scheffler He's amazing golfer He's also a man of God This is what he said which was actually very very strange
Ah He said something that kind of like confused a lot of people He said this is not a fulfilling life
저는 골프를 치는 것은 좋아하지 않지만, 보는 것은 좋아합니다. 세계 랭킹 1위 골퍼 스코티 셰플러라는 선수가 있는데, 그는 뛰어난 선수이자 신실한 그리스도인입니다.
그런데 그는 많은 사람들을 당황하게 할 말을 했습니다. “이것은 만족스러운 삶이 아니다”라고 말한 것입니다.
like talking about his golf right?
그의 골프 경력에 대해 말하면서 한 이야기입니다.
He's one of the most accomplished players in the history of golf He's number one player right now he just WINS so many tournaments and he says you know what this is not a fulfilling life It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart.
그는 골프 역사상 가장 성공적인 선수 중 한 명이며, 현재 세계 1위로 많은 대회에서 우승했습니다. 그러나 그는 이렇게 말합니다. “이것은 만족스러운 삶이 아닙니다. 성취감의 차원에서는 만족이 있지만, 마음 깊은 곳에서는 만족이 없습니다.”
I thought it was very interesting.
저는 이 말이 매우 흥미롭게 느껴졌습니다.
He says you know it feels like you work your whole life right to celebrate this swing but guess what he said it only lasts for a few minutes only lasts a few minutes and then it's like oh yeah what what's next?
그는 “평생을 이 스윙을 위해 준비하고 축하하는 것 같지만, 그 기쁨은 몇 분밖에 지속되지 않는다. 그리고 나면 ‘다음은 뭐지?’라는 생각이 든다”라고 말했습니다.
And life goes on.
The fulfillment that he's saying is it is not from the accomplishments no matter how hard you may work for it
그리고 삶은 계속됩니다. 그가 말한 진정한 만족은 아무리 노력해 얻은 성취로부터 오는 것이 아닙니다.
a fulfillment, true lasting fulfillment can only come from a life rooted in God.
참되고 지속되는 만족은 오직 하나님 안에 뿌리내린 삶에서만 올 수 있습니다.
And if your life is rooted in God if you trust in God right it doesn't matter what you accomplished It doesn't matter success and triumphs and even your failures
because your identity your whole life is rooted in only in God.
여러분의 삶이 하나님 안에 뿌리내리고 하나님을 신뢰한다면, 무엇을 성취했는지, 성공과 승리, 심지어 실패조차도 중요하지 않습니다. 왜냐하면 여러분의 정체성과 삶 전체가 오직 하나님 안에 뿌리내려 있기 때문입니다.
And Zedekiah had forgotten that
시드기야는 이것을 잊었습니다.
in verse 22 this is what it says This is what the sovereign Lord says I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
22절에서 주 여호와께서 말씀하십니다. “내가 백향목 꼭대기에서 높은 가지를 꺾어 심고, 그 끝에서 연한 가지를 꺾어 높고 우뚝 솟은 산에 심겠다.”
Once again God is reminding us that he is in charge of everything and guess what that because he's in charge of everything even though it might look dire in front of us there's always hope
하나님은 다시 한 번 모든 것을 주관하신다고 말씀하십니다. 그렇기에 우리 앞이 아무리 절망적으로 보여도, 항상 소망이 있습니다.
we could always turn back we could always surrender our other idols we could always surrender the different altars that we may have raised up without knowing and we could always turn back to him.
우리는 언제든 돌아갈 수 있습니다. 우리가 모르는 사이에 세운 우상과 제단을 내려놓고, 언제든지 하나님께로 돌아갈 수 있습니다.
There's always hope you know as long as we have God on our side right you know even though the situation in front of us might not look great if we invite God into it then guess what there will always be victory
It might look very tiny like a tiny you know spring
하나님이 우리 편에 계신 한, 언제나 희망이 있습니다. 비록 눈앞의 상황이 좋아 보이지 않아도 하나님을 그 안에 모시면 반드시 승리가 있습니다. 처음에는 아주 작고 미약한 샘물처럼 보일지라도 말입니다.
all right but eventually with God it will turn into the mightiest of cedars right?
그러나 하나님과 함께라면 그것은 결국 가장 위대한 백향목으로 자라날 것입니다.
That's what we see that's the promise that God gives to every single one of us.
이것이 우리가 보는 것이며, 하나님께서 우리 각자에게 주신 약속입니다.
You know in our world we have our own human expectations we have what we consider success and we have a vision of all of that.
우리 세상에는 각자가 생각하는 기대와, 우리가 성공이라 여기는 기준, 그리고 그것에 대한 비전이 있습니다.
Well God says Ah you can't think like that God's kingdom is upside down kingdom He humbles the pride and he raises the humble.
하지만 하나님은 말씀하십니다. “너희는 그렇게 생각할 수 없다. 하나님의 나라는 거꾸로 된 나라다. 그는 교만한 자를 낮추고, 겸손한 자를 높인다.”
So today I pray that whatever pride that we may have let's surrender that
그래서 오늘 저는 우리가 가진 모든 교만을 내려놓기를 기도합니다.
any part of our lives where we're saying You know what I could trust in myself or I could trust in the world I could trust in Egypt right We're gonna let go of all of that no backup plans no human solutions.
“나는 내 자신을 믿을 수 있다”, “세상을 의지할 수 있다”, “애굽을 의지할 수 있다”라고 말하는 삶의 모든 부분을 내려놓고, 예비책이나 인간적인 해결책 없이 살아가야 합니다.
Instead let's surrender our lives as a seed for God to plant and let's be able to trust in him.
대신 우리의 삶을 하나님이 심으실 씨앗으로 드리고, 그분을 신뢰합시다.
What is a life that's rooted in God?
하나님 안에 뿌리내린 삶이란 무엇입니까?
What does a life look like that's rooted in faith in Jesus Christ
is one that gives him the greatest glory that's one that edifies and blesses others right?
예수 그리스도 안에 믿음으로 뿌리내린 삶은 하나님께 가장 큰 영광을 돌리고, 다른 사람을 세우며 복을 나누는 삶입니다.
I pray that every single one of us will be able to live this kind of life.
우리 모두가 이런 삶을 살 수 있기를 기도합니다.
This is a quote by Saint Augustine It says love God and do whatever you please.
성 어거스틴의 말 중에 “하나님을 사랑하고, 원하는 것을 하라”라는 말이 있습니다.
And the quote is just saying if you love God if you truly love God then you're never gonna do anything bad against him so you can do whatever you want because everything that you do I will come from that love right and you will be able to spread that love and live out that love.
이 말의 의미는, 하나님을 진정으로 사랑한다면 하나님께 해가 되는 일을 결코 하지 않을 것이므로, 무엇을 하든 그 사랑에서 나오고 그 사랑을 전하며 살아갈 수 있다는 것입니다.
Today I want to add a little bit to that.
오늘 저는 여기에 조금 덧붙이고자 합니다.
Instead of just loving God and do whatever you please trust in God fully
하나님을 사랑하는 것에 그치지 말고, 온전히 하나님을 신뢰하십시오.
and do whatever you please right?
그리고 원하는 것을 하십시오.
If you trust in God truly trust in God then whatever comes out of it will always be from God as well.
하나님을 진정으로 신뢰한다면, 거기서 나오는 모든 것은 하나님께로부터 올 것입니다.
Today let's let go of our prideful plans and let's allow God to plant his kingdom in us and use us to plant his kingdom as well.
오늘 우리의 교만한 계획을 내려놓고, 하나님께서 우리 안에 그의 나라를 심으시고 우리를 통해 그 나라를 심도록 합시다.
It may look small it may start off slow but when God plants it there's nothing in this world that could uproot it.
그것이 작아 보이고 더디게 시작되더라도, 하나님이 심으신 것은 이 세상 그 무엇도 뽑아낼 수 없습니다.
Let's place our trust in him.
그분을 신뢰합시다.

Gracious Father We thank you Lord
and we thank you for your amazing love and your grace and we thank you Lord
that you would allow us to be able to turn to you.
은혜로우신 아버지, 주님의 놀라운 사랑과 은혜에 감사를 드리며, 우리가 주님께로 돌아올 수 있도록 허락하심에 감사합니다.
So we turn to you
in our triumphs We turn to you in our failures We will not turn on our own understanding or anywhere else but we will only turn to you Lord
We thank you and we love you and we pray all this in Jesus name
amen.
그러므로 우리의 승리 속에서도, 실패 속에서도 주님께로 돌아갑니다. 우리의 생각이나 다른 무엇에도 의지하지 않고 오직 주님께만 나아갑니다. 감사드리며, 주님을 사랑합니다. 이 모든 것을 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.
