Welcome to Living Life.

I was reading an article the other day and I was surprised by the contents of it.
리빙 라이프에 오신 것을 환영합니다. 며칠 전 한 기사를 읽었는데, 그 내용에 놀랐습니다.

The article was about the many reasons why people don't turn to Christianity,

the many reasons why people reject Jesus.
그 기사는 사람들이 기독교로 돌아오지 않는 이유, 예수님을 거부하는 많은 이유에 관한 것이었습니다.

And they said one of the top reasons that people reject Jesus

is that not anything to do with theological things or even religious things or other Christians.
그들에 따르면 사람들이 예수님을 거부하는 가장 큰 이유 중 하나는 신학적인 문제나 종교적인 문제, 혹은 다른 그리스도인들과 전혀 관련이 없는 것이었습니다.

They think of themselves as too sinful.
그들은 자신이 너무 죄인이라고 생각합니다.

And there's no way that someone like Jesus can love them or forgive them.
그래서 예수님과 같은 분이 자신을 사랑하거나 용서할 수 없다고 믿습니다.

So because of that, they unknowingly, they reject Jesus.
그 때문에, 그들은 자신도 모르게 예수님을 거부하게 됩니다.

Ezekiel chapter 16 is one of the most intense depictions of people of God being unfaithful.
에스겔 16장은 하나님의 백성이 불충실한 모습을 가장 강렬하게 묘사한 장 중 하나입니다.

The whole Bible, that's what we see.
성경 전체에서 우리는 그런 모습을 봅니다.

And yet, what we also see in today's passages is not only their unfaithfulness, we also see God's grace, God's amazing grace.
그러나 오늘 본문에서 우리는 그들의 불충실함뿐 아니라 하나님의 은혜, 하나님의 놀라운 은혜도 함께 봅니다.

So I pray that every single one of us here today, let us remember as we go into the passage, God's grace is greater than anything in this world, especially that God's grace is greater than any shame that we may carry about ourselves.
그러므로 오늘 여기 있는 우리 모두가 이 말씀으로 들어갈 때, 하나님의 은혜는 이 세상의 그 어떤 것보다 크며, 특히 우리가 지니고 있는 어떤 수치보다도 크다는 것을 기억하기를 기도합니다.

So with that, let's allow God to speak his word to us.

그러니 이제 하나님께서 우리에게 말씀하시도록 하겠습니다. 

 

 

Fortunes Restored

 

 

Ezekiel chapter 16, verses 53 to 63.
에스겔 16장 53절부터 63절입니다.

53. “However, I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters, and your fortunes along with them, 그러나 내가 소돔과 그의 딸들의 운명을, 사마리아와 그의 딸들의 운명을 회복시키고, 너희의 운명도 그들과 함께 회복시키리라. 54. so that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all you have done in giving them comfort. 이는 네가 그들에게 위로를 준 모든 일로 인해 수치를 짊어지고 부끄러워하게 하려 함이라. 55. And your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before; and you and your daughters will return to what you were before. 네 자매들, 소돔과 그의 딸들, 사마리아와 그의 딸들이 그 이전 상태로 돌아갈 것이며, 너와 네 딸들도 너희 이전 상태로 돌아가리라. 56. You would not even mention your sister Sodom in the day of your pride, 너는 네 교만하던 날에 자매 소돔을 입에 올리지도 않았었느니라. 57. before your wickedness was uncovered. Even so, you are now scorned by the daughters of Edom and all her neighbors and the daughters of the Philistines—all those around you who despise you. 네 악행이 드러나기 전이었지. 그럼에도 이제 너는 에돔의 딸들과 그 이웃들, 블레셋의 딸들과 네 주위의 모든 이들에게 멸시를 당하고 있다. 58. You will bear the consequences of your lewdness and your detestable practices, declares the Lord. 네 음란함과 가증한 행위의 결과를 너는 감당하게 될 것이다, 주께서 말씀하시느니라. 59. “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant. 전능하신 주께서 이렇게 말씀하시느니라. “네가 언약을 깨뜨리고 내 맹세를 업신여겼으므로, 네 행위대로 내가 너를 대하리라.” 60. Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you. 그럼에도 내가 네 젊은 날에 너와 맺은 언약을 기억하며, 너와 영원한 언약을 세우리라. 61. Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both those who are older than you and those who are younger. I will give them to you as daughters, but not on the basis of my covenant with you. 그때 너는 네 행동을 기억하고 수치로 부끄러워할 것이며, 네보다 나이가 많거나 적은 자매들을 맞이하리라. 내가 그들을 네게 딸로 주겠지만, 그것은 너와 맺은 언약을 근거로 하지 않는다. 62. So I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the Lord. 이와 같이 내가 너와 언약을 세울 것이며, 너는 내가 여호와임을 알게 되리라. 63. Then, when I make atonement for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign Lord. 네가 행한 모든 일에 대해 내가 속죄할 때, 너는 기억하여 부끄러워하며 다시는 수치 때문에 입을 열지 않을 것이다, 전능하신 주께서 말씀하시느니라.

 

 

Ezekiel, he was a prophet to the Jewish exiles in Babylon.
에스겔은 바빌론에 포로로 잡혀간 유대인들에게 보낸 선지자였다.

And these chapters that we're reading here today and the next few days, they're all addressed to, you know, Jerusalem, right? Which is still standing at the time, though they were under great threat from Babylon.
그리고 우리가 오늘과 앞으로 며칠 동안 읽게 될 이 장들은 모두 예루살렘에 보내진 말씀이다. 당시 예루살렘은 여전히 존재했지만, 바빌론으로부터 큰 위협을 받고 있었다.

But Ezekiel speaks of Sodom, which is a city that symbolizes judgment.
그런데 에스겔은 심판을 상징하는 도시, 소돔에 대해 말한다.

And he talks about Samaria, which is the northern kingdom that had already fallen due to idolatry.
그는 또한 우상숭배로 인해 이미 멸망한 북왕국 사마리아에 대해서도 말한다.

 

And yet, Surprisingly, you know, Jerusalem, right, Judah, the main kingdom, is described as even worse than Sodom and Samaria.
그런데 놀랍게도, 남왕국 유다의 수도인 예루살렘이 소돔과 사마리아보다 더 악하다고 묘사된다.

And yet, even though Jerusalem has this, you know, image and, you know, God says you are terrible, What God also says is that I will restore them.
그리고 예루살렘이 이런 평판을 가지고 있고 하나님께서 “너희는 끔찍하다”라고 말씀하심에도 불구하고, 하나님은 그들을 회복시키겠다고도 말씀하신다.

He says, I will restore you, right?

Chapter 16, verse 53, this is what he says. However, I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters and your fortunes along with them.

하나님은 말씀하신다. “내가 너를 회복시키겠다.” 16장 53절에서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “그러나 내가 소돔과 그의 딸들, 사마리아와 그의 딸들의 운명을 회복시키고, 너희의 운명도 그들과 함께 회복시키겠다.”

Now this is an extraordinary sign of forgiveness and grace and love.
이것은 용서와 은혜, 그리고 사랑의 놀라운 표징이다.

What God is saying is, yes, your unfaithfulness might be, you know, really huge, right?

But no one is far too gone for my grace.
하나님이 말씀하시는 것은, “그래, 너희의 불충실함이 정말 크다 할지라도, 나의 은혜에서 너무 멀리 떨어진 사람은 없다”라는 것이다.

That God's grace is not given compared to, you know, how good we are compared to other people.
하나님의 은혜는 우리가 다른 사람보다 얼마나 선한가를 기준으로 주어지는 것이 아니다.

Regardless of all of that, God pours out His grace upon us.
그 모든 것과 상관없이, 하나님은 우리에게 은혜를 부어 주신다.

That even though we might write ourselves off or others off as hopeless, Now, God never does that, right?
우리가 자신이나 다른 사람을 희망 없는 존재로 여길지라도, 하나님은 결코 그렇게 하지 않으신다.

Ezekiel continues in verse 54, So that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all you have done and giving them comfort.
에스겔은 54절에서 이렇게 계속 말한다. “네가 행한 모든 일로 부끄러워하며 수치를 짊어지고, 그들에게 위로를 주었기 때문이다.”

And in verse 58, just a few verses afterwards, he says, You will bear the consequences of your lewdness and your detestable practices declares the Lord.
그리고 불과 몇 절 뒤인 58절에서 그는 이렇게 말한다. “네 음란함과 가증한 행위의 결과를 너는 감당하게 될 것이다, 주의 말씀이니라.”

You know, God is saying, Hey, you have done this terrible thing, and He's bringing it up there, but it isn't for condemnation.
하나님은 “네가 이런 끔찍한 일을 했다”라고 말씀하시지만, 그것은 정죄하기 위해서가 아니다.

It's not to humiliate them.
그들을 모욕하기 위함이 아니다.

You know, God is allowing us to feel the weight of our very own rebellion.
하나님은 우리가 우리의 반역이 얼마나 무거운 것인지 느끼도록 허락하신다.

Why? So we don't return to it.
왜냐하면 우리가 다시는 그 길로 돌아가지 않게 하기 위해서다.

It's not humiliation, once again.
다시 말하지만, 이것은 모욕이 아니다.

It's a wake-up call that God is doing to bring up our sins.
하나님께서 우리의 죄를 드러내시는 것은 영적인 각성의 경고음이다.

You know, many of us, As Christians, especially perhaps those who have grown up in the faith for a long time, we deal with the pain and shame of sin.
우리 중 많은 사람들, 특히 오랫동안 신앙 안에서 자라난 그리스도인들은 죄의 고통과 수치심을 다루며 살아간다.

And there are all these consequences to sin, right, that we have to deal with.
그리고 우리가 감당해야 하는 죄의 모든 결과들이 있다.

If you look at the first couple of chapters of Genesis, that's what we see.
창세기 첫 몇 장을 보면, 우리는 그 모습을 볼 수 있다.

The first thing that Adam did after he committed a sin was to hide from God.
아담이 죄를 지은 후 가장 먼저 한 일은 하나님에게서 숨는 것이었다.

Adam and Eve, they hid from God.
아담과 하와는 하나님께 숨었다.

There was fear where there was never fear before.
전에 없던 두려움이 생겼다.

There was fear where there shouldn't have been any fear.
있어서는 안 될 두려움이 있었다.

But also, what did Adam do? He blamed Eve, right?
또한 아담이 한 일은 무엇인가? 그는 하와를 탓했다.

He said it was her fault, right?
그는 “그녀의 잘못이다”라고 말했다.

He noticed his nakedness, he noticed her nakedness, and then he ended up blaming him.
그는 자신의 벌거벗음을 깨달았고, 그녀의 벌거벗음도 깨달았으며, 결국 그녀를 탓했다.

What we see, you know, what sin does, the consequences of sin is, it takes us away from God, and it also takes us away from one another, right?
우리가 보는 죄의 작용, 즉 죄의 결과는 우리를 하나님에게서 멀어지게 하고, 서로에게서도 멀어지게 만든다.

And yet, The consequences, they're there, but they don't have to last.
그럼에도 불구하고, 결과는 있지만 그것이 영원히 지속될 필요는 없다.

The consequences don't have any power over us, right?
그 결과들이 우리를 지배할 권세는 없다.

For the wages of sin is death. Yes, but what? Christ Jesus came anyway, right?
죄의 삯은 사망이다. 그렇지만, 그럼에도 예수 그리스도께서 오셨다.

Christ Jesus came to deliver us, to free us from all of that.
그리스도 예수께서 우리를 구원하시고, 그 모든 것으로부터 우리를 자유롭게 하시기 위해 오셨다.

You know, Jerusalem, they committed this unfaithfulness, this spiritual adultery, and God's anger and justice, you know, deserved judgment was on them.
예루살렘은 불충과 영적 간음을 저질렀고, 그에 따라 하나님의 진노와 공의, 즉 마땅한 심판이 그들에게 임했다.

And yet, ultimately, that's not what happens.
그럼에도 궁극적으로는 그렇게 끝나지 않았다.

You know, we often cry out to God. We look around, we see all of these bad things happening and we exclaim, God, where is your justice?
우리는 종종 하나님께 부르짖으며, 주위를 둘러보고 나쁜 일들이 벌어질 때 “하나님, 주의 정의는 어디 있습니까?”라고 외친다.

We want your justice.
우리는 하나님의 정의를 원한다.

You know, when we see bad things happen to seemingly good people, we scream and we point and we say, God, where is your justice?
겉보기에 선한 사람들에게 나쁜 일이 닥칠 때, 우리는 소리치며 손가락질하고 “하나님, 주의 정의는 어디 있습니까?”라고 묻는다.

But I pray today with absolute humility, let us first look at the mirror.
그러나 오늘 나는 절대적인 겸손함으로 먼저 거울을 들여다보자고 기도한다.

Let us allow these words to be a mirror upon our very own souls and our lives, right?
이 말씀을 우리의 영혼과 삶을 비추는 거울로 삼자.

And be able to truly see ourselves for who we are. We are sinners.
그리고 우리가 어떤 존재인지 진실로 보자. 우리는 죄인이다.

For the wages of sin is death. But guess what? The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
죄의 삯은 사망이다. 그러나 하나님의 선물은 우리 주 그리스도 예수 안에서 누리는 영생이다.

 

If there was justice, right, we would die.
만약 정의만 있었다면, 우리는 죽어야 했다.

That's what this passage is saying. And yet God still pours out his mercy and grace.
이것이 본문이 말하는 바이다. 그러나 하나님은 여전히 자비와 은혜를 부어주신다.

If justice is getting what you deserve, mercy is getting out of what you deserve.
정의가 마땅히 받아야 할 것을 받는 것이라면, 자비는 마땅히 받아야 할 것을 면하게 되는 것이다.

We deserve death, but we get life.
우리는 죽음을 받아야 하지만, 생명을 얻는다.

In verse 60 in today's passage, Ezekiel says, Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.
오늘 본문의 60절에서 에스겔은 이렇게 말한다. “그러나 내가 네 젊은 시절에 너와 맺은 언약을 기억하며, 너와 영원한 언약을 세우리라.”

You know, this is not just Israel's promise to God, it's about God's promise to them.
이것은 단지 이스라엘이 하나님께 한 약속이 아니라, 하나님이 그들에게 하신 약속이다.

And despite betrayal and spiritual adultery, God remains faithful.
배신과 영적 간음에도 불구하고, 하나님은 신실하게 남아 계신다.

He doesn't just restore what was lost, He gives even more.
하나님은 잃어버린 것을 단순히 회복시키는 데 그치지 않고, 그보다 더 주신다.

He says this is an everlasting covenant.
하나님은 이것이 영원한 언약이라고 말씀하신다.

And as we know, ultimately all of this is fulfilled in the life and death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
그리고 우리가 알듯이, 이 모든 것은 우리 주이자 구원자이신 예수 그리스도의 삶과 죽음, 그리고 부활 안에서 완성되었다.

In Romans 5:8, it says, God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for our sins.
로마서 5장 8절은 이렇게 말한다. “우리가 아직 죄인 되었을 때에 그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 죽으심으로 하나님께서 우리에 대한 자기의 사랑을 확증하셨느니라.”

 

I pray that today that we remember the grace and the love and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
오늘 우리가 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 사랑, 그리고 희생을 기억하기를 기도합니다.

And even though what we deserve was death, and even though we are all sinners, Christ still came and fulfilled this covenant for every single one of us.
우리가 마땅히 받아야 할 것은 죽음이었고, 우리가 모두 죄인임에도 불구하고, 그리스도께서 오셔서 우리 각자를 위해 이 언약을 성취하셨습니다.

I pray that through this, that it will free us not only from the power of sin, but also free us from the power of shame as well.
이로 인해 우리가 죄의 권세뿐만 아니라, 수치심의 권세에서도 자유하게 되기를 기도합니다.

 

 

 

Take a moment to remember and thank God for His faithfulness in your life.

Now for everyone out here who thinks that you are far too removed because of your sinful past or your sinful nature, well, the passage is reminding us God's grace is available for you.
죄악된 과거나 죄된 본성 때문에 자신이 너무 멀리 떨어져 있다고 생각하는 모든 사람들에게, 오늘 본문은 하나님의 은혜가 여전히 당신을 위한 것임을 상기시킵니다.

 

And for those who might believe that you have to do more to earn His, you know, favor and His salvation,

no. God's grace is available for you.
또 하나님의 호의와 구원을 얻기 위해 더 많은 일을 해야 한다고 믿는 사람들에게도, 그렇지 않다고 말합니다. 하나님의 은혜는 이미 당신을 위한 것입니다.

It's always about grace. Everything is grace.
항상 은혜입니다. 모든 것이 은혜입니다.

In verse 63 in today's passage, it says,

Then when I make an atonement for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never open your mouth because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign Lord.
오늘 본문 63절은 이렇게 말합니다. “내가 네가 행한 모든 일에 대해 속죄할 때, 네가 기억하고 부끄러워하며, 네 수치 때문에 다시는 입을 열지 아니하리라.” 주 여호와의 말씀입니다.

Now, what can you say in front of God when Your sins are out there.
당신의 죄가 드러났을 때, 하나님 앞에서 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까?

What can you say when you realize God himself has paid for your unfaithfulness?
하나님께서 친히 당신의 불성실함의 값을 치르셨음을 깨달았을 때, 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까?

There's nothing that we can say except give our lives over in worship, except to surrender our will to him.
우리가 할 수 있는 말은 없습니다. 다만 우리의 삶을 예배로 드리고, 우리의 뜻을 그분께 굴복시키는 것뿐입니다.

You don't need to defend your past. You don't need to earn your place. All you have to do is to turn to him today.
당신은 과거를 변명할 필요도, 자리를 얻기 위해 노력할 필요도 없습니다. 오늘 그분께 돌아가기만 하면 됩니다.

I pray that every single one of us here in light of today's passage and the love and the mercy that is spoken that we turn to our Father, we turn to our Lord and Savior, we allow the Holy Spirit inside of us to work.
오늘 본문과 말씀하신 사랑과 자비를 기억하며, 우리 모두가 아버지께, 주님이자 구주께 돌아가고, 성령께서 우리 안에서 역사하시도록 하기를 기도합니다.

God says, I will restore you. I will remember my covenant. I will atone for you.
하나님께서 말씀하십니다. “내가 너를 회복시키겠다. 내가 내 언약을 기억하겠다. 내가 너를 속죄하겠다.”

Let us be encouraged by that message here today. Let's all pray.
오늘 이 말씀으로 위로받읍시다. 다 함께 기도합시다.

 

 

Gracious Father, we thank you for your truly amazing love.
은혜로우신 아버지, 주님의 참으로 놀라운 사랑에 감사드립니다.
It's a love that goes beyond anything in this world, a love that's given freely onto us, Lord.
그것은 이 세상의 그 어떤 것보다 크고, 우리에게 거저 주어지는 사랑입니다.
We pray that as we receive this love, that it's not all about just doing whatever we want.
이 사랑을 받을 때, 우리가 하고 싶은 대로 사는 것이 되지 않게 하소서.
Instead, may we surrender our lives to you. May we worship you in all that we do.
오히려 우리의 삶을 주님께 드리고, 우리가 하는 모든 일에서 주님을 예배하게 하소서.
And we ask, Lord, that you will free us from condemnation, free us from shame,
Free us from the holds of sin that, you know, that has over us.
또한 주님, 우리를 정죄에서 자유롭게 하시고, 수치심에서 자유롭게 하시며,
우리를 사로잡고 있는 죄의 권세에서 자유롭게 하소서.
And instead, Lord, let us be able to fully just turn back to you.
그리고 오히려 주님께 온전히 돌아가게 하소서.
Lord, we thank you and we love you. We pray all this in Jesus' name.
주님, 감사합니다. 사랑합니다. 이 모든 것을 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다.
