Remain Faithful (Joshua 22:1-9) Living Life 12/21/2025 Daily Devotional Bible Study
Introduction: Faithfulness After the Battle
Welcome to living life. The war is over the major battles of the conquest of Canyon have come to an end.
Now Israel has finally reached the time of West.
Joshua twenty two verses one through nine does not describe an exciting battle or sit dramatic miracle.
Instead it shows us a simple and ordinary farewell.
The tribes of Ruban Gad and the half tribe of Massa had already received their land even so they crossed the Jordan River and fought alongside their brothers.
Now they are given permission to return home.
Through this moment the Bible asks us an important question After the mission is finished Are we still faceful?

Scripture Reading: Joshua 22:1–9
Joshua Chapter 22 verses 1 to nine
Then Joshua summoned the Rubinites the Gadites and the half tribe of Massa and said to them you have done all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded and you have obeyed me in everything I commanded for a long time.
Now to this very day you have not deserted your fellow Israelites but have carried out the mission.
The Lord your God gave you now that the Lord Your God has given them rest as he promised
return to your homes in the land that Moses The servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan but be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses The servant of the Lord gave you to love the Lord your God to walk in obedience to him to keep his commands to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Then Joshua blessed them and sent them away and they went to their homes.
To the half tribe of Massa Moses had given land in Bashan
and to the other half of the tribe Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan along with their fellow Israelites.
When Joshua sent them home he blessed them saying return to your homes with your great wealth with large herds of livestock with silver gold bronze and iron and a great quantity of clothing and divide the plunder from your enemies with your fellow Israelites.
So the Rubenites the Gadites and the half tribe of Massa left the Israelites at Chilo and Kan to return to Giliad their own land which they had acquitted in accordance with the command of the Lord through Moses
Obedience That Endures to the End
Joshua praises these tripes.
He says you have kept the command of the Lord.
Obedience is not about emotions or one time decisions it is about perseverance.
Although they had already received their inheritance they stayed and fought alongside their brothers for many years.
Their land had it given to them east of the Jordan but they obeyed God's word and remained in the place of battles until the end.
They did not participate halfway they came this far at the risk of their own lives.
True obedience means taking responsibility even when life could become more accountable
These tribes were not perfect but the direction of their obedience was clear.
They chose to obey the Lord to the very end so we can learn something from here.
Beginnings often look impressive anyone can start well but what matters more is how we finish even if the beginning is weak I hope we become people who's ending faithfully.
Rest Given by the Lord
At that point we see the results given to them.
In verse four Joshua declares
Now the Lord your God has given rest to your brothers.
Imagine this for a moment as one people and one nation they crossed the flooded Jordan River together they faced countless battles, shared victories and defeats and kept moving forward until this very moment and now at last they are able to enjoy the rest that the Lord gives.
How great their joy must have been how overwhelming that moment Musa felt all the land has now been distributed among the people of Israel
and their boundaries have been established.
It seems that all that remains is prosperity in the promised land they had long hoped for.
Faithfulness Beyond the Mission
But at this moment the message Josha gives to the tribes returning to their inheritance has a surprising challenge to us.
In verse five it says But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that the Moses servant of the Lord gave you to love the Lord your God to walk in all his way to obey his commands
to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and all your soul.
Their mission to conquer the land of Canyon had come to an end but their life as the people of God was not over.
Five words appear in this passage Love Walk keep hold fast and serve.
Although they would cross back over the Jordan River they were still called to run the race of faith as God's people in their own land.
The war was over but there was no room for compromising when it came to obeying God's word.
Finishing Well in Our Own Time
So how can we apply this message to our own lives? Today

as you approach the end of 2025 many of you have worked so hard to obey and take responsibility for the tasks that interested to you throughout the year.
When you look back we realize that God is the one who began the work and God is also the one who enabled us to finish it.
To him alone belongs all the glory.
Finishing our assigned tasks while is important but continuing to live as faithful believers is even more significant.
Giving Glory to God Who Sustains Us
In Look 17 10 Jesus says So You also when you have done everything you are told to should say we are unworthy servants we have only done our duty.
We may think we started the raise and ran it on our own but in truth it was God who carried us and brought us this far.
Though the journey was often face paced and sometimes it was overwhelming I hope and pray that we would end this year by offering thanksgiving and praise to the Lord who has helped us every step of the way.
Let's pray
Closing Prayer
dear Lord A we thank you for bringing us this farm.
You are the one who began the work in our lives and you are the one who gave us the strength to finish it.
Even when the journey felt overwhelming you remained faithful and walked with us every step of the way.
We confess that we are unworthy servants and we have only done what you called us to do.
As we come to the end of this year help us not only to finish our tasks as well but to continue living as faithful people of God.
Teach us to love you more to walk in your ways to keep your word and to hold fast to you and to serve with all our hearts wherever you lead us next we we remain faithful to end to the end and trusting not in our strength but in your ways alone we give you all the glory and praise.
In Jesus' name we pray amen.
