From Promise to Provision (Joshua 211-17) Living Life 12182025 Daily Devotional Bible Study
Introduction: God’s Promise as a Guaranteed Reality
Welcome to living life. In Hebrew language a word promise is not just a future intention and it has many different meanings.
For example in Isaiah Chapter 55 the word promise means word or spoken promise but in Genesis promise means to speak or to give.
And in sum 110 a word promise means a legally binding or oath or it means the covenant promise.
So the word promise not only refers to a spoken word but it is covenant bound reality that God guarantees with his characters.
In today's passage we'll see how God fulfills his promises and what he does for those who serve him.
Let's read today's Verses

Scripture Reading: Joshua 21:1–7
Joshua Chapter 21 verses 1 to seven.
Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eliasar the Priest Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel at Shilo and Canon and said to them the Lord commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in with pasture lands for our livestock.
So as the Lord had commanded the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance.
The first slot came out for the Coathytes according to their plans
The Levites who were descendants of Eron The Priest were allotted 13 towns from the tribes of Judah Simian and Benjamin.
The rest of Kohat's descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Effrm Dan and half of Massa.
The descendants of Greshan were allotted 13 towns from the clans of the tribes of Isacar Asher Naftelli and the half tribe of Massa and Bashan.
The descendants of Marrari according to their clans received 12 towns from the tribes of Ruben, Gad and Zebulan.
God Never Forgets His Promises
Today's from today's scripture.
In verse two the Lord commanded through Moses that we be given the cities to dwell in and along with their pasture lands for our livestock.
So by command of the Lord the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and Pasteuls out of their inheritance.
So God spoke through Moses and God had already promised through Moses that the people of Israel the Levites would receive the cities to live in.
And God never forgets his promises.
The Levites had no territorial inheritance but they were fully provided for instead of land for their inheritance The Lord has become their inheritance.
So it was the presence and serve a service of God.
From Earthly Inheritance to Eternal Dwelling
If God gave descendants of Israel a place to dwell a city and pastureland then wouldn't God give us the descendant of Abraham a place to dwell because we are all descendant of Abraham and descendant of David and we have an inheritance to receive.
How exciting is that?
If you think about it our life here teaches us God's salvation plan and a microcosm of what we'll be experiencing as children of God.
And this is why it is important to pass down our faith to our children.
What would we pass on to our children?
Money real estate business but those are all temporary things and we don't know if that's going to addify for our children.
How about we leave them a permanent dwelling place where they can be with God forever?
God’s Provision Through Community and Unity
God never abandons his people and he provides provides ways to make a living for his servants.
How?
He doesn't just hand them a lump sum money but he uses other people to support one another and bring unity amongst them.
The priest preach and feed his people spiritually and other group works hard and support priests and this is only possible when they both see God and honor God
and God delights it when we come together in unity for his kingdom and he wants us to experience that when we are serving in his daily life when we when we are serving him and his kingdom then our ways of lives become leaving worship to God and we seek not only our on strength but we see God's glory.
Shared Sacrifice for Kingdom Provision
And in Verse 3 it says the people of Israel gave every tribe had to give up their part of their inheritance to support the kingdom work.
And you know kingdom provision always involves shared sacrifice and the people obey even though it cost them land.
And we are a body of Christ.
A body is made of many different parts and without one it is difficult to function properly.
And each body part has their own functions and they work together to what we want them to do right so often times especially when we are doing ministry, we face obstacles or challenges because people are different
and actually it is a blessing that we are different when we work together with a common goal.
There is this synergic impact.
God Provides Exactly What His Servants Need
God's provision was specific as you can see from today's passage it was intentional and overflowingly abundant as you see in today's verses the cities were not random and each tribe gave according to what God had instructed and he gives exactly what his servants need.
And this city symbolizes identity and belonging and pastureland symbolize ongoing provision.
And how are you spending most of your time meditating his words and modifying yourself according to the scripture or are you living your life trying to build asset and your own legacy
God provides for his people and God never fails to keep his promise and God never abandon his people when they are in need.
Living by Trust, Not Calculation
I hope this gives you comfort, peace and assurance and help you to be motivated to put your trust in God and be obedient to where God is leading you.

You know it's a Christmas season and our church is preparing for a Christmas service for natives and we go into Indian reservation and share the gospel and God's love with them.
And every time when we go on a mission trip we witness God's provision in such an unexpected way like one person donated bags of chips and one person donated bags of tangerine and one person donated bags of dinner rules
and we had a grocery market donating us chicken meats for this mission trip and we had a number of people donating and sending us gifts for toys for children.
And we didn't start this mission because we had a funding and actually we had no funds to begin with.
When God calls you God puts someone or some people in your heart and you want to do something for them that's how God calls you.
Saying Yes to God’s Calling
And when God calls you maybe God has a special gift or inheritance prepare for you of course we don't do that we don't serve for the inheritance but when we have that calling, we don't do calculations in our head.
Instead we answered that calling by faithfully saying yes Lord I am here GA will provide the rest and God wants us to receive our inheritance He wants us to claim ours.
And during this holiday season you know, we exchanged many gifts and my prayer is that we think about the gifts that God already gave to us gifts that God wants to give to us and gifts that our children and grandchildren will be receiving as our inheritance.
Closing Prayer
Let's pray Heavenly Father we are so grateful for your faithfulness and your abundant love.
Lord, thank you so much for not canceling your promise and you are the God who keeps your promise.
Lord,
could you please help us not to live for our earthly inheritance but for the eternal inheritance that you prepared for us?
Lord, help us to say yes to your calling with such a joyful heart.
And Lord, we pray that during this holiday season Lord, help us to remember what you have done for us the gifts that we already received from you.
Lord, we are so grateful for everything that you are doing in our lives.
We love you and we prayed all this in your son's name.
Amen.
