When we were young we would watch many cartoons and one of the cartoons you would see a mouse and with his big ball of cheese

and this mouse is so excited takes little bites of it and tries to carry it to maybe a safer area.
우리가 어릴 때 많은 만화를 보곤 했습니다. 그중 하나에는 큰 치즈 덩어리를 가진 쥐가 나오는데, 이 쥐는 신이 나서 치즈를 조금씩 베어 먹으며 더 안전한 곳으로 옮기려 합니다.

This mouse is thinking man this cheese is gonna make me full and I'm so happy not knowing that it was actually a trap and that this trap would lead to its demise.
쥐는 ‘이 치즈가 나를 배부르게 할 거야, 너무 행복해!’라고 생각하지만, 사실 그것은 덫이었고 결국 그 덫 때문에 죽음에 이르게 됩니다.

 

Similarly in our passage today we see that the people of Israel and Judah they are lusting after the things of Assyria the lifestyle of Babylon and their thinking it's gonna satisfy them

when in fact it leads to their destruction as God allows these powerful nations to conquer them.
오늘 본문에서도 이스라엘과 유다 백성들이 앗시리아의 것들과 바벨론의 삶의 방식을 탐내며 그것이 자신들을 만족시킬 것이라 여겼지만, 사실은 하나님께서 그 강대국들을 통해 그들을 정복하게 하심으로 멸망에 이르게 된다는 것을 보게 됩니다.

 

And so as we read our passage today I hope that we can put aside all of the idols all of the things that we are trusting in this world apart from God
그러므로 오늘 본문을 읽을 때, 하나님이 아닌 이 세상에서 우리가 의지하는 모든 우상들을 내려놓기를 바랍니다.

and may we put our trust back into the one who can truly satisfy us.
그리고 진정으로 우리를 만족시키실 수 있는 하나님께 다시 신뢰를 두기를 원합니다.

Ezekiel Chapter 23 verses 1 to 21
에스겔 23장 1절부터 21절

1 The word of the LORD came to me: 1 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 말씀하셨다. 2 “Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother. 2 “인자야, 한 어머니에게서 난 두 여자가 있었다. 3 They became prostitutes in Egypt, engaging in prostitution from their youth. In that land their breasts were fondled and their virgin bosoms caressed. 3 그들은 애굽에서 창녀가 되었고, 어린 시절부터 음행을 하였다. 그 땅에서 그들의 가슴이 주무름을 당하고 처녀의 가슴이 애무를 받았다. 4 The older was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. They were mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem. 4 맏이는 오홀라라 불렸고 그의 자매는 오홀리바라 했다. 그들은 내 것이 되었고 아들과 딸을 낳았다. 오홀라는 사마리아요 오홀리바는 예루살렘이다. 5 “Oholah engaged in prostitution while she was still mine; and she lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians—warriors 5 “오홀라는 내 것일 때에도 창녀짓을 하였고, 그녀의 연인들 곧 앗수르 사람들, 용사들을 탐했다. 6 clothed in blue, governors and commanders, all of them handsome young men, and mounted horsemen. 6 그들은 모두 푸른 옷을 입었고, 총독과 지휘관들이며, 잘생긴 청년들로 말을 탄 기병이었다. 7 She gave herself as a prostitute to all the elite of the Assyrians and defiled herself with all the idols of everyone she lusted after. 7 그녀는 앗수르의 모든 귀족들에게 몸을 내주어 창녀짓을 했고, 자신이 탐한 모든 이들의 우상들과 함께 스스로를 더럽혔다. 8 She did not give up the prostitution she began in Egypt, when during her youth men slept with her, caressed her virgin bosom and poured out their lust on her. 8 그녀는 애굽에서 시작된 창녀짓을 버리지 않았다. 젊었을 때 남자들이 그녀와 동침하며 처녀의 가슴을 어루만지고 음욕을 쏟아 부었기 때문이다. 9 “Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, the Assyrians, for whom she lusted. 9 “그러므로 나는 그녀를 그녀가 탐하던 연인들, 앗수르 사람들의 손에 넘겼다. 10 They stripped her naked, took away her sons and daughters and killed her with the sword. She became a byword among women, and punishment was inflicted on her. 10 그들은 그녀를 벌거벗기고, 아들과 딸을 빼앗으며, 칼로 그녀를 죽였다. 그녀는 여자들 사이에 본보기가 되었고, 심판을 받았다. 11 “Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet in her lust and prostitution she was more depraved than her sister. 11 “그녀의 자매 오홀리바는 이 일을 보고도, 욕망과 창녀짓에서 언니보다 더 타락하였다. 12 She too lusted after the Assyrians—governors and commanders, warriors in full dress, mounted horsemen, all handsome young men. 12 그녀도 앗수르 사람들—총독과 지휘관들, 화려한 복장을 한 용사들, 말을 탄 자들, 모두 잘생긴 젊은이들을 탐하였다. 13 I saw that she too defiled herself; both of them went the same way. 13 나는 그녀도 스스로를 더럽힌 것을 보았다. 두 여인은 모두 같은 길을 걸었다. 14 “But she carried her prostitution still further. She saw men portrayed on a wall, figures of Chaldeans portrayed in red, 14 “그러나 그녀는 음행을 더 이어갔다. 벽에 그려진 붉은 옷을 입은 갈대아 사람들의 형상을 보았다. 15 with belts around their waists and flowing turbans on their heads; all of them looked like Babylonian chariot officers, natives of Chaldea. 15 그들은 허리에 띠를 두르고 머리에 터번을 쓴 자들이었으며, 모두 바벨론의 병거 장교들 같고 갈대아 출신 같았다. 16 As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. 16 그녀가 그들을 보자마자 탐하여 사자를 갈대아로 보냈다. 17 Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their lust they defiled her. After she had been defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust. 17 바벨론 사람들이 그녀에게 와서 사랑의 침상에 들었고 욕망으로 그녀를 더럽혔다. 그녀는 그들에게 더럽힘을 받은 뒤 마음을 돌려 싫어하였다. 18 When she carried on her prostitution openly and exposed her naked body, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister. 18 그녀가 창녀짓을 드러내며 벌거벗은 몸을 노출했을 때, 나는 그녀의 언니에게서 떠난 것처럼 그녀에게서도 떠났다. 19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 19 그러나 그녀는 점점 더 방탕해졌고, 애굽에서 창녀였던 젊은 시절을 기억해냈다. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 20 그곳에서 그녀는 남근이 나귀 같고 사정이 말 같은 연인들을 탐하였다. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled. 21 네가 애굽에서 젊을 때, 가슴이 애무를 당하고 젖이 어루만져지던 음탕함을 그리워하였다.

 

 

In our passage today we see that God speaks to the prophet Iszikio in this imagery of two daughters of one mother and these daughters engage in prostitution in an early age and while they were in Egypt.
오늘 본문에서 우리는 하나님께서 선지자 에스겔에게 한 어머니의 두 딸의 비유로 말씀하시며, 이 딸들이 젊을 때부터 애굽에서 음행에 빠졌음을 보게 된다.

And in verse four we see that the older daughter was named Ohola and her sister was Oholiba.
그리고 4절에서는 맏딸의 이름이 오홀라, 동생의 이름이 오홀리바라 기록되어 있다.

It says they were mine and gave birth to sons and daughters.
그들은 내 것이 되었고 아들과 딸을 낳았다고 말씀하신다.

Ohola is Samaria and Holiba is Jerusalem.
오홀라는 사마리아요, 오홀리바는 예루살렘이다.

 

 

The older sister is Samaria which represents Israel
맏언니는 사마리아로, 이스라엘을 상징합니다.

The younger sister is Jerusalem which represents Judah.
아우는 예루살렘으로, 유다를 상징합니다.

 

And so these daughters these people were God's people they were mine

and yet they turned their hearts from God and they chased after the idols of these people.
그래서 이 두 딸, 곧 이 백성들은 하나님의 백성이었고 내 것이었지만, 그들은 마음을 하나님께로부터 돌려 다른 민족의 우상을 따랐습니다.

When we look at Ohola they lusted after the power the protection the materialism of Assyria

and so they wanted these things so bad and they thought it would make them happy It's like that mouse illustration.
오홀라를 보면, 그들은 앗수르의 권력, 보호, 물질주의를 탐냈습니다. 그것들을 너무나도 원했고 그것이 자신들을 행복하게 할 것이라 여겼습니다. 이는 앞서 말한 쥐와 치즈의 비유와 같습니다.

 

And instead of those worldly things making them happy
그러나 그런 세상적인 것들이 그들을 행복하게 하기는커녕

God used Assyria to judge the people of Israel while Israel and Judah they did commit many sexual sins.
하나님은 오히려 앗수르를 사용하여 이스라엘을 심판하셨습니다. 이스라엘과 유다는 실제로도 많은 성적인 죄를 저질렀습니다.

This imagery of prostitution speaks of a deeper spiritual condition and issue which is spiritual adultery.
이 음행의 이미지는 더 깊은 영적 상태와 문제, 곧 영적 간음을 뜻합니다.

Instead of loving God and cherishing God and looking to God to satisfy them they kept looking to the things of this world and it led to their destruction.
그들은 하나님을 사랑하고 존중하며 하나님께 만족을 구하는 대신, 세상의 것들을 바라보았고 결국 멸망에 이르게 되었습니다.

 

 

Brothers and sisters we are also chosen by God saved by him loved by him and although he has saved us
형제자매 여러분, 우리 역시 하나님께 선택받아 구원받고 사랑받은 자들입니다.

many times we are still trusting in the idols of this world.
그러나 우리는 여전히 이 세상의 우상들을 의지하는 경우가 많습니다.

What are the idols What are our idols of Egypt that we used to trust in that we are still clamoring over lusting after thinking that these things will satisfy us It's important to remember what they are and to cut them out of our lives.
우리가 과거에 의지하던 애굽의 우상들, 지금도 여전히 매달리고 탐내며 우리를 만족시킬 것이라 여기는 것들은 무엇입니까? 그것들이 무엇인지 기억하고, 우리의 삶에서 제거하는 것이 중요합니다.

 

 

We also look at the younger sister Oholiba which represents Judah.
또한 우리는 동생 오홀리바, 곧 유다를 보게 됩니다.

Judah saw what happened to Israel they saw the demise they saw them trusting in idols

and they saw the destruction and yet
유다는 이스라엘에게 일어난 일을 보았습니다. 그들의 몰락을 보았고, 우상을 의지하다가 멸망한 것을 똑똑히 보았습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고

Judah did not learn from Israel's mistakes and became more corrupt than them.
유다는 이스라엘의 잘못에서 교훈을 얻지 못하고 오히려 더 타락하였습니다.

They wanted the power the wealth the fame of Assyria but they also wanted to adopt the worldly culture of Babylon.
그들은 앗수르의 권력, 부, 명예를 원했을 뿐 아니라, 바벨론의 세속적인 문화를 받아들이고자 했습니다.

If we look at verse seventeen then the Babylonians came to her to the bed of love and in their lust they defiled her

this imagery of this bed of love this deep intimacy that Israel that Judah should have with God Instead Judah was having with Babylon and it did not satisfy it led to their destruction
17절을 보면, 바벨론 사람들이 그녀에게 와서 사랑의 침상에 들었고 욕망으로 그녀를 더럽혔다고 합니다. 이 “사랑의 침상”은 유다가 하나님과 누려야 할 깊은 친밀함을 상징하는데, 유다는 그것을 바벨론과 가지려 했습니다. 그러나 그것은 결코 만족을 주지 못했고, 결국 멸망으로 이어졌습니다.

and so God punishes Judah and many times we think punishment by God is some bolt of lightning or some hardship calamity.
그래서 하나님께서 유다를 심판하셨습니다. 우리는 종종 하나님의 심판을 벼락이나 재난 같은 것으로 생각합니다.

But how does God punish them?
그러나 하나님께서는 어떻게 그들을 벌하셨습니까?

By distancing himself from them brothers and sisters the greatest punishment we could receive is distancing from God.
그들을 떠나심으로 벌하셨습니다. 형제자매 여러분, 우리가 받을 수 있는 가장 큰 벌은 바로 하나님과 멀어지는 것입니다.

We need and we want more of God and yet if he ever distances himself from us that is the worst thing that could happen to us.
우리는 하나님을 필요로 하고 더 원합니다. 그러나 만일 하나님께서 우리에게서 멀어지신다면 그것이야말로 최악의 일이 될 것입니다.

 

 

We see Oholiba they see this bad example of her older sister Israel and does not learn.
우리는 오홀리바, 곧 유다가 언니 이스라엘의 나쁜 본보기를 보고도 배우지 못하는 것을 봅니다.

It's the same thing with us.
우리도 똑같습니다.

There have been sadly many fallen leaders who have messed up

who have fallen into sin in the church our parents could be an example and we are exemples.
안타깝게도 교회 안에서도 많은 지도자들이 무너지고 죄에 빠졌습니다. 우리의 부모가 그 예가 될 수도 있고, 우리 자신도 예가 될 수 있습니다.

We have fallen to sin many times and the important thing is to learn from their mistakes and learn from our mistakes to not allow history to repeat itself to allow it to be sometimes a painful but important lesson so that we turn away from our idols.
우리도 수없이 죄에 넘어졌습니다. 중요한 것은 그들의 잘못에서 배우고, 또 우리의 잘못에서도 배우는 것입니다. 역사가 반복되지 않도록, 때로는 고통스럽지만 중요한 교훈으로 삼아 우상에게서 돌이키는 것입니다.

 

In this age of social media where we see the lavish lifestyles of the people around us

many times we think if I only could have this if I only could afford this or have this I would be so happy.
요즘처럼 소셜미디어 시대에, 우리 주위 사람들의 화려한 삶을 보면서 ‘나도 이것만 가질 수 있다면, 이것만 살 수 있다면 행복할 거야’라고 생각할 때가 많습니다.

The power the protection of this world that's all I need.
세상의 권력, 세상의 보호 ― 그것만 있으면 된다고 여깁니다.

 

But we are reminded that anything apart from God will insnare us and take away that deep intimacy we could have in him and the power and joy that comes in being and living as a true child of God.
그러나 하나님과 상관없는 어떤 것도 결국 우리를 올가미에 빠뜨리고, 하나님과 누릴 수 있는 깊은 친밀함을 빼앗으며, 하나님의 자녀로 살 때 누릴 수 있는 능력과 기쁨을 앗아간다는 것을 기억해야 합니다.

 

 

“In what situation do you become most susceptible to envy?”

And so I want to finish with this verse from Hebrews Chapter twelve verse one.
그래서 저는 히브리서 12장 1절 말씀으로 마무리하고자 합니다.

Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses let us throw off everything that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked for us.
“이러므로 우리에게 구름 같이 둘러싼 허다한 증인들이 있으니 모든 무거운 것과 얽매이기 쉬운 죄를 벗어 버리고 인내로써 우리 앞에 당한 경주를 하며”

As many as there have been bad examples of faith there are great examples of faith in the Bible and in our lives but the greatest example of course is Jesus and let us fix our eyes on him the author and perfector of our faith.
믿음의 나쁜 본보기가 있었던 것만큼, 성경과 우리의 삶에는 위대한 믿음의 본보기도 있습니다. 그러나 최고의 본보기는 예수님이십니다. 우리의 믿음의 주이시며 온전케 하시는 예수님을 바라봅시다.

 

We could put aside these idols.
우리는 이 우상들을 버릴 수 있습니다.

Jesus already died and he gave us the power to resist and to defeat and be victorious over these idols and so let's put them aside tear them down throw them out and turned our hearts back to the one who gave it all for us The only one who could truly satisfy our amazing saviour and friend Jesus.
예수님께서 이미 우리를 위해 죽으시고, 이 우상들을 거부하고 무너뜨리며 승리할 수 있는 힘을 주셨습니다. 그러니 이제 그것들을 버리고, 무너뜨리고, 내던지고, 우리를 위해 모든 것을 주신 분, 우리를 진정으로 만족시킬 수 있는 유일하신 구주이자 친구이신 예수님께 다시 마음을 돌립시다.

 

Let's put our trust back into him to day Let us pray

Heavenly Father We thank you for your amazing love and we ask that you help us to get rid of these idols
오늘 우리의 신뢰를 다시 그분께 두도록 합시다. 기도하겠습니다.
하늘 아버지, 주님의 놀라운 사랑에 감사를 드립니다. 이 우상들을 우리 삶에서 제거할 수 있도록 도와주소서.

that are taking away the deep intimacy we could have with you The power and joy that is in Christ Help us to remember that that these things can only insnare us and take away this joy that we have in you

and help us to put our trust back into you For you are the only one who can satisfy

you Are our heart's true desire and so help us to turn our hearts back to you

and away from the ways of this world of the temptations of this world.
하나님과의 깊은 친밀함을 빼앗고, 그리스도 안에 있는 능력과 기쁨을 빼앗는 우상들을 멀리하게 하소서. 그것들이 우리를 올가미에 빠뜨려 기쁨을 빼앗을 뿐임을 늘 기억하게 하소서. 우리의 신뢰를 다시 주님께 두게 하시고, 주님만이 우리를 만족시키시는 분, 우리 마음의 참된 갈망임을 고백하게 하소서. 우리의 마음이 세상의 방식과 유혹에서 떠나 주님께로 향하게 하소서.
