When you think about trees what thoughts come to your mind?
나무에 대해 생각할 때 어떤 생각이 떠오르나요?

Some trees are good for making furniture others are used as pillars or beams.
어떤 나무는 가구를 만드는 데 좋고, 어떤 나무는 기둥이나 보로 사용됩니다.

Some woods are even dried for years to craft musical instruments.
어떤 목재는 심지어 수년 동안 건조시켜 악기를 만드는 데 사용됩니다.

 

But what about the vine?
그렇다면 포도나무는 어떨까요?

I used to have a grape vine growing over the pario of our house.
우리 집의 파티오 위로 포도나무가 자라고 있었습니다.

Grape vines are not sturdy they are twisted and weak you might stretch them over a roof but they could never serve as a real structure.
포도나무는 튼튼하지 않고 꼬이고 약해서, 지붕 위에 걸칠 수는 있지만 결코 견고한 구조물로 쓸 수 없습니다.

They are not thick enough to provide real shade and they are not exactly decorative either.
그것들은 충분히 두껍지 않아 그늘을 제대로 제공하지 못하고, 장식용으로도 그다지 뛰어나지 않습니다.

And in the summer so many ants the only real value of grave buine is it's fruit.
그리고 여름에는 개미가 너무 많으며, 포도나무의 유일한 가치는 그 열매입니다.

But when a grapevine bears no grapes it becomes essentially useless.
그러나 포도나무가 포도를 맺지 않으면 본질적으로 쓸모없게 됩니다.

In Isikio chapter 15 God compares Israel to a vine but this vine has no fruit it is burned bent and buron

and so God says it will be thrown into the fire.
에스겔서 15장에서 하나님은 이스라엘을 포도나무에 비유하시지만, 이 포도나무는 열매가 없고 불타고 휘어지고 그을려서 불에 던져질 것이라고 말씀하십니다.

But even in this passage we find the amazing message of the Gospel.
그러나 이 구절 속에서도 우리는 복음의 놀라운 메시지를 발견할 수 있습니다.

Ezekiel Chapter fifteen verses 1 to eight
에스겔 15장 1절부터 8절

 

1. The word of the Lord came to me: 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되: 2. “Son of man, how is the wood of a vine different from that of a branch from any of the trees in the forest? “인자야, 포도나무의 목재가 숲 속의 모든 나무의 가지와 어떻게 다른가? 3. Is wood ever taken from it to make anything useful? Do they make pegs from it to hang things on? 그 목재가 유용한 무언가를 만드는 데 사용된 적이 있는가? 그것으로 못을 만들어 물건을 걸어 두는가? 4. And after it is thrown on the fire as fuel and the fire burns both ends and chars the middle, is it then useful for anything? 이 나무를 연료로 불속에 던져 불이 양끝을 태우고 가운데를 숯이 되게 한 후에, 그것이 유용한가? 5. If it was not useful for anything when it was whole, how much less can it be made into something useful when the fire has burned it and it is charred? 온전했을 때 아무 쓸모가 없었는데, 불에 타서 숯이 되었는데 얼마나 더 유용할 수 있겠는가? 6. “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: As I have given the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest as fuel for the fire, so will I treat the people living in Jerusalem. “그러므로 전능하신 주 여호와께서 이르시되: 내가 숲 가운데 있는 포도나무의 목재를 불의 연료로 준 것 같이, 예루살렘에 사는 백성도 그렇게 다루리라. 7. I will set my face against them. Although they have come out of the fire, the fire will yet consume them. And when I set my face against them, you will know that I am the Lord. 내가 그들에게 얼굴을 대리니, 불에서 벗어났다 하여도 불이 그들을 삼킬 것이며, 내가 그들에게 얼굴을 향할 때 너희는 내가 여호와인 줄 알리라. 8. I will make the land desolate because they have been unfaithful, declares the Sovereign Lord.” 그들이 신실하지 아니하였으므로, 땅을 황폐하게 하리라, 전능하신 주 여호와의 선언이니라.”

 

 

 

Throughout the Old Testament the people of Israel are often described as a vine.
구약 전반에 걸쳐 이스라엘 백성은 종종 포도나무로 묘사됩니다.

 

Some chapter eighty in verse eight says you brought a vine out of Egypt you drove out the nation's implanted.
시편 80편 8절은 “주께서 한 포도나무를 애굽에서 뽑아내시고 민족들을 쫓아내시고 그것을 심으셨나이다”라고 말합니다.

God himself is portrayed as the gardener the one who plants the vine, waters it and protects it day and night.
하나님 자신이 그 포도나무를 심고, 물을 주며, 밤낮으로 보호하는 농부로 묘사됩니다.

If God is the one caring for the vineyard we might think what could possibly go wrong?
만약 하나님께서 포도원 관리자라면, 무엇이 잘못될 수 있겠냐고 생각할 수 있습니다.

Surely no vineyard could be in better hands.
분명 그보다 더 좋은 손에 맡겨질 포도원은 없을 것입니다.

Then what does the gardener expect from the vine?
그렇다면 농부는 포도나무에서 무엇을 기대할까요?

Isaia 27:6 tells us

in days to come Jacob will take root Israel will bud and blossom and fill all the world with fruit.
이사야 27장 6절은 “후일에 야곱이 뿌리를 내리며, 이스라엘이 꽃이 피고 싹이 나서 세계를 열매로 채우리라”라고 말합니다.

That's the goal

deep roots blossoming branches and abundant fruit

God desires to fill the world through his people with the fruit of righteousness, obedience and worship.
그것이 목표입니다 — 깊이 내린 뿌리, 꽃피는 가지, 그리고 풍성한 열매. 하나님은 그의 백성을 통해 의와 순종과 예배의 열매로 세상을 채우기를 원하십니다.

That's his purpose not just for Israel but for all humanity.
그것이 하나님의 목적이며, 이는 이스라엘만이 아니라 모든 인류를 위한 것입니다.

This was his intention from the creation.
이것은 창조 때부터의 하나님의 의도였습니다.

But there is a problem

Jeremia 2:21 says

I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock.
그러나 문제가 있습니다. 예레미야 2장 21절은 “내가 너를 순전한 참종자, 귀한 포도나무로 심었거늘”이라고 말합니다.

How then did you turn against me into a corrupt wild vine?
“어찌하여 내게 배반하여 들포도나무의 썩은 가지가 되었느냐?”

 

Israel failed to bear the fruit God desired

again and again the prophets echo this same lament.
이스라엘은 하나님이 원하시는 열매를 맺는 데 실패했고, 예언자들은 거듭 이 같은 탄식을 반복했습니다.

 

 

And in today's passage Ezekiel 15:6,
그리고 오늘 본문인 에스겔 15장 6절에서,

God delivers the strong message:

as the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest

which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I treat the people of Jerusalem.
하나님은 강한 메시지를 전하십니다. “내가 숲의 나무들 가운데 있는 포도나무를 불에 던져 태우듯이, 예루살렘 백성도 그렇게 하리라.”

 

God declares the vine useless, fit only for fire.
하나님은 그 포도나무가 쓸모없으며, 오직 불에 던질 뿐이라고 선언하십니다.

This is a tragic picture:

God planted Israel himself, he protected and nurtured them, he gave them his word and sent his prophets,

yet they bore no fruit, they turned away, rebelled, and refused to walk in his ways.
이는 비극적인 모습입니다. 하나님께서 친히 이스라엘을 심으시고, 보호하며 기르셨으며, 그들에게 말씀을 주시고 선지자들을 보내셨지만, 그들은 열매를 맺지 않았고, 하나님께 등을 돌리고 반역하며 그분의 길을 걷기를 거부했습니다.

 

 

At this point someone might ask: Did the gardener fail?
이쯤에서 누군가는 “그 농부가 실패한 것인가?”라고 물을지도 모릅니다.

The answer is no. Israel's history shows that God was full of mercy and patience.
그 답은 “아니요”입니다. 이스라엘의 역사는 하나님이 자비와 인내로 가득 차 계셨음을 보여줍니다.

He gave them every opportunity to return, but God doesn't force obedience like a machine.
하나님은 그들이 돌아올 모든 기회를 주셨지만, 기계처럼 순종을 강제로 이끌지 않으십니다.

He wants hearts that respond in love and trust, like a father who desires his children to follow him in joy.
하나님은 아버지가 자녀들이 기쁨으로 따르기를 바라는 것처럼, 사랑과 신뢰로 응답하는 마음을 원하십니다.

God longed for his people to walk with him, but they refused.
하나님은 그분의 백성이 자신과 동행하기를 갈망하셨지만, 그들은 거부했습니다.

As a result, the vine was burned.
그 결과, 그 포도나무는 불에 타 버렸습니다.

That was the judgment they brought upon themselves.
그것은 그들이 스스로 불러온 심판이었습니다.

 

 

But here is the point we must not miss:

even in the midst of this message of judgment, God's heart for his people has not changed.
그러나 우리가 놓치지 말아야 할 점이 있습니다.

심판의 메시지 한가운데에서도 하나님의 백성을 향한 마음은 변하지 않았다는 것입니다.

 

 

Ezekiel 15:7 says,

“I will set my face against them. Although they escape from the fire, the fire will still consume them.”
에스겔 15장 7절은

“내가 그들에게 얼굴을 향하리라. 그들이 불에서 벗어날지라도, 불이 여전히 그들을 삼키리라”라고 말합니다.

And when I set my face against them, you will know that I am the LORD.
“내가 그들에게 얼굴을 향할 때, 너희는 내가 여호와인 줄 알리라.”

Yes, the judgment is real, but so is God's desire that his people would know that he is the LORD — that they would recognize he is their only refuge, their only help, and their only hope, not just for this life but for eternal life.
그렇습니다. 심판은 실제이지만, 하나님의 백성이 그분이 여호와이심을 알기를 원하시는 하나님의 뜻도 동일하게 실재합니다. 그분이 그들의 유일한 피난처이자, 유일한 도움이며, 이 생뿐 아니라 영생의 유일한 소망이심을 깨닫기를 바라십니다.

God's purpose never changed;

his desire has always been to dwell with his people and bear fruit through them.
하나님의 목적은 결코 변하지 않았습니다.

하나님은 항상 그분의 백성과 함께 거하며, 그들을 통해 열매 맺기를 원하셨습니다.

 

That's why in John 15:1 Jesus says,
그래서 요한복음 15장 1절에서 예수님은 이렇게 말씀하십니다.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.”
“나는 참포도나무요, 내 아버지는 농부라.”

 

Jesus enters the story where Israel failed.
이스라엘이 실패한 그 자리에 예수님이 들어오십니다.

Jesus stands in their place.
예수님은 그들의 자리에 서십니다.

The vine once deemed hopeless now has hope — not because of anything we have done, but because Jesus has become the true vine.
한때 희망이 없다고 여겨졌던 포도나무가 이제 희망을 가지게 되었습니다. 우리가 한 일 때문이 아니라, 예수님께서 참포도나무가 되셨기 때문입니다.

He took the fire of judgment in our place.
그분은 우리의 자리에 서서 심판의 불을 받으셨습니다.

He died and rose again, and now he invites us to become his branches.
그분은 죽으시고 다시 살아나셨으며, 이제 우리를 그의 가지가 되도록 초대하십니다.

 

John 15:5 says,

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
요한복음 15장 5절은 이렇게 말씀합니다.

“나는 포도나무요, 너희는 가지라. 내가 그 안에, 그가 내 안에 거하면 사람이 열매를 많이 맺나니, 나를 떠나서는 너희가 아무 것도 할 수 없음이라.”

In Christ we are grafted in. He is our savior, our mediator, our king.
우리는 그리스도 안에서 접붙여졌습니다. 그분은 우리의 구주이시며, 중보자이시며, 왕이십니다.

No longer do we live like we are in control, chasing success by our own strength.
우리는 더 이상 우리의 힘으로 성공을 쫓으며, 모든 것을 통제하는 듯 살아가지 않습니다.

We now live for Jesus; we bear his fruit, and this has all been made possible by the faithfulness of God — the faithfulness of God.
이제 우리는 예수님을 위해 살며, 그의 열매를 맺습니다. 그리고 이 모든 것은 하나님의 신실하심으로 가능해졌습니다 — 하나님의 신실하심입니다.

 

 

So how will you respond to this gospel?
그렇다면, 당신은 이 복음에 어떻게 응답하시겠습니까?

God remains the faithful gardener. Christ is the true vine, and in him we are called to bear fruit that will last.
하나님은 여전히 신실한 농부이십니다. 그리스도는 참포도나무이시며, 그분 안에서 우리는 오래도록 남을 열매를 맺도록 부르심을 받았습니다.

 

 

In a world that uses people and values material possessions, how can you be different?

Jesus is the true vine, and we are the branches.

This means we are called to live a life deeply connected to him.
예수님은 참포도나무이시고, 우리는 가지입니다.

이는 우리가 그분과 깊이 연결된 삶을 살도록 부름받았다는 뜻입니다.

 

When life is going well, like when everything seems to be falling into place, we must pause and ask,

“Am I still abiding in Jesus? Is he still my Lord and Savior?”
삶이 잘 풀리고 모든 것이 제자리를 찾는 것처럼 보일 때, 우리는 멈추어 서서

“나는 여전히 예수님 안에 거하고 있는가? 그분은 여전히 나의 주님이요 구주이신가?”를 물어야 합니다.

In seasons of ease and success we can drift without even noticing.

That's why we must continue to examine whether we are remaining in him.
편안함과 성공의 시기에는 우리도 모르게 표류할 수 있습니다.

그래서 우리는 계속해서 자신이 그분 안에 거하고 있는지 점검해야 합니다.

Likewise, when life feels hard and disappointing,
마찬가지로, 삶이 힘들고 실망스러울 때에도,

when things don't go the way we hoped, we must remember that we are still connected to Jesus.
우리가 바랐던 대로 일이 풀리지 않을 때에도, 우리는 여전히 예수님과 연결되어 있음을 기억해야 합니다.

 

No matter the circumstance, he remains our good shepherd, leading us step by step in his perfect love — a love that nothing in the world can separate us from.
상황이 어떠하든, 그분은 여전히 우리의 선한 목자이시며, 세상 그 무엇도 끊을 수 없는 완전한 사랑으로 한 걸음씩 우리를 인도하십니다.

May this truth strengthen you today.
이 진리가 오늘 당신을 강하게 하기를 바랍니다.

May you walk in victory, knowing you are forever joined to Christ, the true vine.
참포도나무이신 그리스도와 영원히 연결되어 있음을 알고 승리 가운데 걸어가시기를 바랍니다.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being the true gardener, full of patience and mercy.
사랑하는 하늘 아버지, 인내와 자비로 가득하신 참 농부가 되어 주셔서 감사합니다.
We believe you planted us with a purpose, and you long for us to bear the fruits that glorify you.
아버지께서 우리를 목적을 가지고 심으셨으며, 아버지를 영화롭게 하는 열매를 맺기를 원하신다는 것을 믿습니다.
But we confess that, like Israel, we have often wandered; we haven't always remained in you.
그러나 이스라엘처럼, 우리는 종종 길을 벗어났고, 항상 주 안에 거하지 못했음을 고백합니다.
Rather, we have trusted in our success and strengths — but today we return to the true vine, Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Lord.
오히려 우리의 성공과 힘을 의지했지만, 오늘 우리는 참포도나무이신 예수 그리스도, 우리의 구주이자 주님께로 돌아갑니다.
Please help us abide in you, not just in good times but in every season of life.
좋은 시기뿐만 아니라 삶의 모든 계절 속에서 주 안에 거하게 하소서.
Remind us daily that apart from you, we can do nothing.
주님을 떠나서는 우리가 아무것도 할 수 없다는 것을 날마다 기억하게 하소서.
Lead us in the path of fruitfulness. Make our lives a reflection of your grace and glory.
열매 맺는 길로 우리를 인도하시고, 우리의 삶이 주님의 은혜와 영광을 비추는 거울이 되게 하소서.
We love you, and we thank you.
우리는 주님을 사랑하며, 주님께 감사드립니다.
