God's Will for Us (2 Samuel 14:25-33)(05/06/2023)

God's Will for Us

Hello everyone and welcome to living life.

In a movie called the hunger games, there's a scene where contestants are required to display their skills to a group of potential I.

As the main character, catenus, is nervous to appear in front of these I,

she messes up her first chance to impress them and ends up losing everyone's attention even as she hits a perfect mark on her second try.

And because no one pays attention to her anymore, out of frustration, she shoots an arrow

and hits an apple from the mouth of a roasted pig that's in the suite where everyone's gathered.

And with this act, she gains the attention of everyone present.

In today's passage, we see how well Epsilon had returned to Jerusalem

because David does not meet with him Epsilon seeks the attention of his father by even going through drastic means.

Let us take a look at today's passage together.

25 In all Israel there was not a man so highly praised for his handsome appearance as Absalom. From the top of his head to the sole of his foot there was no blemish in him.

26 Whenever he cut the hair of his head--he used to cut his hair from time to time when it became too heavy for him--he would weigh it, and its weight was two hundred shekels by the royal standard.
27 Three sons and a daughter were born to Absalom. The daughter's name was Tamar, and she became a beautiful woman.
28 Absalom lived two years in Jerusalem without seeing the king's face.
29 Then Absalom sent for Joab in order to send him to the king, but Joab refused to come to him. So he sent a second time, but he refused to come.
30 Then he said to his servants, "Look, Joab's field is next to mine, and he has barley there. Go and set it on fire." So Absalom's servants set the field on fire.

31 Then Joab did go to Absalom's house and he said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire?"
32 Absalom said to Joab, "Look, I sent word to you and said, 'Come here so I can send you to the king to ask, "Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there!" ' Now then, I want to see the king's face, and if I am guilty of anything, let him put me to death."
33 So Joab went to the king and told him this. Then the king summoned Absalom, and he came in and bowed down with his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.

As Joab is the one who brought back Absalom, we see that Absalom sends for Joab so that through him, a request may be made to see the king.

But when Epsilon sends for Joab, we see that Joab refuses to come not only once, but twice.

As abpsilon sends for him a second time

seeing that this wasn't going to work,

we see how Apson comes up with an excessive plan to set johab's field of barley on fire

so that through this method, he might receive joab's attention.

But we have to think about this was this really the best method to seek audience with king daven?

Was there nothing better that he could have done if Absalom had turned to God first in repentance and seeking his guidance God may have shown him some mercy.

I, Apson continues, in his own way by his own methods to try to receive attention from the people rather than God.

For some of us as well, we may try so hard to gain the attention of people that we forget to seek our God first that if we cannot get people's attention the first time, or a second time

instead of realizing it's not people that we should be seeking attention

from we only try harder to gain their attention by even taking extreme measures.

But why even go through these extreme measures when you have to try so hard when God is right here and already giving us his attention

already listening to all that we have to say to him you know it's really not worth it when we already have our God for there is no one who understands us like he does.

That when we seek for attention even if we can't bring out what we need in words

he already knows what's in our hearts and he knows what it is that we need.

Then, as we go forth into the world, let us not look for the tension of man but continue to seek out our God.

That it is our God who we want for him to see us that it is our God who we want to speak to

and that it is our God who we want to lead us in his ways let us live seeking our God every day in our lives

When was a time you were unsure about God's will for you?

as God is always present with us there's nothing better than to be in his presence.

His words are sweet as honey and his spirit fills us with joy and peace.

I pray that today this is who we are spending

our time with that instead of spending time to receive attention from people

that we are able to spend time with our God and be blessed in him let us pray together father God we just thank you so

much for showing us and reminding us that you are always here with us that you know what's in our hearts and you know

us best.
Instead of trying to seek the attention of people instead of trying to do things our way lord, help us to look at you to see
you out first to seek your method so that we may be able to be led in the ways that you are leading us.
Lord help us to remain faithful to you at all times
and at all the things that we do that we may be able to continuously praise you for who you are.
