Comfort in Our Fears

Got is good all the time all the time got is good.

Life is full of uncertainties and challenges that open lead us fearful or anxious.

Recently Southern California is still in the middle of the wild fires that have killed at least 11 people,

destroyed more than 10 thousand buildings and forced hundreds of the thousands of people to flee as the flame spread acrossing the parts of the Los Angeles.

In John chapter six some 1 through 21 we see two powful moments where Jesus

not only means human needs but also reveals his divine powers to bring comfort in the midst of a fear.

Today's passage reminds us that Giges is both a provider for our physical need and a presence that calls out the deepest fear in the midst of chaos that we really need to hold on to.

His comfort. Shall we listen today's passage together?

John Chapter six verses one to twenty one.

1 Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias),
2 and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick.
3 Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples.
4 The Jewish Passover Feast was near.
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?"

6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7 Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!"
8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up,
9 "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"
10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them.

11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted."
13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
14 After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."
15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake,
17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.
18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.
19 When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified.
20 But he said to them, "It is I; don't be afraid."

21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

In the opening verses a large crowd followed the jeges because of the signs he had performed.

Faced with a seemingly impossible situation feeding the thousands of a hundred people Jesus asked Philip where shall we buy the bread of these people to eat?

And then Jesus tested Philip who failed to the test?

Philip answered the Jesus said it would take a more than a half of a year waits to buy enough bread for each one of the half a bite.

Andrew spoke up Here is a boy with you know five small bottley bread and then two small fish.

But how far will they go among so many?

Andrew also make a similar mistake as a Philt by assuming what was and was not possible for Jesus

Jesus already knew what he intended to do defeating the 5000 people.

Interestingly the time of this miracles during the Passover is not a coincidence.

It carries a deeper in theological and symbolic meanings.

The Passover commander write in Israel's deliveries from the Egypt where God provided for his people in Miraclous away got protected the Israelites from the angels of death by providing the pass over land.

Also GA provided manner in the wilderness sustained the Israeli during their 40 years of a journey by miracles feeding the 5000 Jesus Christ demonstrates that his fulfillment of these Old Testaments provisions

Jesus Christ is the future pass over land and who will provide the ultimate deliverance from sin

Jesus Christ it's the you know bread of He himself is the bread of life and his pature sustains

and that satisfied not just the physical hunger but the deepening the deeper meaning of people's soul.

And this assignment is designed to help the people recognize the Jesus as a prophetic messia.

They have been waiting to come into the world.

In verse eleven Jesus then took the Bari loves and gave thanks and dis attributed to those you know who are seated as much as they wanted.

He did the same with the fish.

She just used the small offering of five loaves and two fish to perform a miracle that satisfied everyone.

When his disciples appeared in adequately and believing they did not have enough you know meet the crowd's need chases assure that assure them that he is sufficient and even when resources seems limited.

Later in today's passage the disciples are caught in a storm and embattling rough water in the dark

their fear escalate and when they see Jesus walking on the water not recognizing him at first but these words you know bring immediate comfort

it is I do not be afraid the disciples fear the storm and uncertainty of their circumstances.

J presents and his voice calm their fear

and when he stepped into the boat they reached their destinations safely.

Both events in this passage reveal the Jesus's identity as the son of God and he is not only capable to meeting our physical needs but also exercising authority over the creation.

When we focus on who Jesus is rather than our own circumstances fear lose its grip

and a fear open arise when we forget who Jesus is.

Later, remember, his promises Don't be afraid for I am with you.

When have you seen God address your physical and spiritual needs?

When we recognize the Hy as our savior provider and a sovereign lord we can rest in his ability to handle anything we face.
Let's pray there.

Father thank you for reminding us who you are in the midst of our chaos.
Father there are a lot of needs right now a lot of the people they are asking for your help.
The father you are speaking to us it is a me it is I
so do not be afraid.
So Father we will put away our fears and anxiety
But Father, we draw ourselves to relying on the you who you are
you are the provider
you are a healer and you are the one who is able to control the creation.
So help us Lord in Jesus name we prayed together
Amen.
