Faithfulness and Grace (Romans 3:1-8) Living Life 09/06/2025 Daily Devotional Bible Study

1) Introduction

Welcome to living life.

My members once asked me what is it they can do to read the Bible more?
I want to make this commitment I want to you know read Scripture more.
What should I do?

I told them step one Open your Bibles step two read the Bible step three repeat you know Obviously I'm being a little bit you know facetious here but it's very important for us to read the Bible every day.
We must take it in every day we must spend time reading the word of God and allowing God to speak to us.
But

you can't just end with reading right?
We need to be able to read the word take it in and allow the word to transform us from the inside out and that's how we ought to respond to the word.
You know today we're reading Romans chapter three

a romance is all about the Gospel but the problem was that people were taking this gospel were taking the word of God and like twisting it for their own desires

as if the Gospel would give them permission to live poorly or to do whatever they wanted.
That would be the actual worst reading of Scripture.
I pray that today as we go deeper into the book of Romans that our hearts will be softened that will really really cherish and thirst after the word of God but more than that that we will allow the word to speak to us and transform not in the way that perhaps you know I want but most importantly

in the way that the spirit is leading us.
I pray this over everyone as we go into today's passage together

2) Scripture Reading — Romans Chapter three verses one to eight (NIV)

What advantage then is there in being a Jew or what value is there in circumcision?
Much in every way. First of all the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God.
What if some were unfaithful?
Will their unfaithfulness nullify God's faithfulness?
Not at all let God be true and every human being a liar as it is written so that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.

But if our unrighteousness brings out God's righteousness more clearly what shall we say that God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us?
I am using a human argument Certainly not if that were so how could God judge the world?
Someone might argue if my falsehood enhances God's truthfulness and so increases his glory Why am I still condemned as a sinner?
Why not say as some slanderously claim that we say let us do evil that good may result their condemnation is just

3) Commentary and Application

Romans is all about the Gospel

The good news of Jesus Christ

It's about how an unrighteous person like me can turn into a righteous person in the eyes of God

How someone that was not right with God can be made right with God and it's all about Jesus Right?
At the end of the day the answer to every question that we have is going to be Jesus.

But Paul in today's passage in Romans Chapter three

what he noticed was there are a lot of people who were attacking him or you know twisting the Gospel or whatever right you know doing what they wanted to do.
So Paul was making some counter arguments some answers to the questions that other people were bringing especially against the skeptics of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

One of the questions that they asked was right you know Paul was saying Hey you know all we need is faith there's nothing else we can do for our salvation.
So they were asking if nothing I can do You can bring my own salvation What's the point of being a Jew?
Sounds actually strange right in our context but in their context it made a lot of sense.
Jews argued and they believed that being chosen by God right being chosen by God

they were God's chosen special people special race and just because they were chosen right God saved them and perhaps nobody else but them you know But Paul was saying no that's not right being chosen alone was not acceptable Right?
Paul was a Jew He was a rabbi himself and you're saying it's not only about the ethnicity it's not about the physical descendants of Abraham but the spiritual descendants.

So now the Jews were you know countering him going against him and saying you know what what's the point of having the law what's the point of following the law?
What's the point of being a Jew?
Is there any advantage to it?
And surprisingly Paul says yes much in every way and that's the words that he uses in today's passage.
He's saying because you guys us we the Jews were given the word of God we were entrusted with

and when nobody else had it we had it and that's a blessing that no one could take away You know I didn't think about it right but I grew up in the church and I wasn't born into the church but around age four is when I first started attending church I didn't know it at the time but looking back now I'm such a great blessing to be introduced to the faith to have this faith community right most importantly to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ at such a young age.

You know there's people out there especially non Christians who might believe that it's better to believe at a later age right right before you die right then you could do whatever you want and right before you die accept Jesus and then go to Heaven.

But I would say no of course not because how great it is that I know Jesus now how great it is that I get to live with Jesus now right the knowledge of Jesus I know Jesus and I am known by Jesus how great it is that I got to know it as such

at early age if anything I wish I knew him even earlier than that.
So today I pray that you remember what a great blessing it is to know the name of Jesus right now right you know it's not about advantages or disadvantages to salvation because it's all about Jesus but still the blessing that we have that this moment right now not later

not in the future but right now in this moment we know who Jesus is.
I pray that every single person here will remember this grace and today live in thanksgiving of it you know Paul goes on and on right?
I think this is one of the greatest misconceptions of the Gospel Right

something that happened during Paul's time and I guarantee you it happens today as well.
You know many people say that since we are saved by grace a free gift from God there's nothing that we can do about it right?

Then that means Hey guess what we can do whatever we want right

You know he says in verse seven Someone might argue If my falsehood enhances God's truthfulness and so increases his glory Why am I still condemned as a sinner?
He's saying Like you know what God saves us anyway I might as well do anything I want if anything the more I sin right It shows how great God is even more Therefore maybe I will sin more right?
That's a terrible argument

and a lot of people were twisting the idea of grace and using it as an excuse to do whatever they want and said You know what God save me gu grace Therefore it doesn't matter what I do right You know that's what we call cheap grace You know cheap grace is grace without discipleship is grace definitely without the cross and is definitely the grace without Jesus Christ.
We must all remember today that grace is not an excuse to sin Grace is actually the power to live differently

because we have received the grace Yes we might not be perfect but we live in faith knowing that Yeah I can't do this on my own but through the spirit right we could overcome sin we could overcome anything that comes our way And yes there's sin in this world but guess what sin never has the final word against us

Death never has the final word against us because of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Therefore to be able to live in faith

means to live a transformed life I am a new creation and Christ born again

The old is God the new is here right I've put on Jesus right I could follow Jesus That's what true grace is it removes it costs us our old life but it gives us our true new life in return.
And the right response isn't to argue with God about all of these points instead the response to grace is to trust our father to surrender to him and allow his grace and his spirit to change.

Today if there are still any areas in your life that you are not surrendering.
I pray that you will introduce grace into every aspect of your life.

You know God's grace is sufficient for everything and when we allow God's grace to come into our lives then we will live transformed lives.

I pray that in light of God's word for all of us that we will be transformed from the inside out and always trust and always surrender and always respond by living our lives in faith.

Recount the ways He has been faithful and has fulfilled His promises to you.
Recount the ways He has been faithful and has fulfilled His promises to you.

Today's passage You know Paul anticipates You know every excuse that people might make right Like what's the point like doesn't my failure cancel God's plan right? Doesn't my sin actually help God?

And Paul says no no no right because he's saying the Gospel does not leave any room for excuses.
God is faithful even when we're nots God is just

even when we question his ways God is true even when we lie right?

So what does that mean for us today?

It means I pray this for everyone that we stop arguing stop looking for loopholes and excuses You know what

get rid of all of that right and just simply trust in him

God's promises never fail God is good yesterday today and tomorrow his truth will never change His grace is never cheap and if you allow it if we believe in it if we live in it if we have faith in it if we surrender to it

it will change us and we will be able to live the lives that God has in store for us.
I pray that all of us will be able to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ and live by it.

4) Closing Prayer

Let's all pray Gracious Father we thank you Lord and today we just want to confess Lord Your grace is enough for me Lord by your grace we are saved by your grace We have this new life and for that we are so grateful Lord We pray for all our brothers and sisters especially those that might be a little bit disheart today

that we are saved by your grace and because of that we have this amazing blessed life living with you every single day.

Lord help us to remember that and be able to respond in faithfulness.

Our L we thank you and we love you and we pray all this in Jesus' name.
