1. Intro

Hello everyone, welcome to Living Life.

When you plan to visit a friend or family far away from you, I'm pretty sure you're so excited to meet them.

And many times when you try to visit them, you prepare a gift so you can bring it to them.

And when you meet them, you want to give this special gift to them, right?

Well, in today's passage, Apostle Paul, as he's planning to meet his brothers and sisters in Rome in Christ, he wants to give a gift to them. And let's go into today's text to see what kind of gift that he wants to bring to them.

2. Scripture Reading

Romans 1:8-17

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of His Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you. In my prayers at all times, and i pray that now at last by god's will the way may be opened for me to come to you i long to see you so that i may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong that is that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.

I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you, but have been prevented from doing so until now. in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles. I am obligated both to Greeks and non -Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes, First to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last. Just as it is written, the righteous will live by faith.

3. Commentary and Application

In today's text, in verse 11, it says like this, I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong. So in today's scripture it says, Apostle Paul wants to give a spiritual gift, not a material gift or any other gift. Well, I guess the spiritual gift can be the best gift of all because we know when your spirit is strong that the rest of your body and your soul is happy.

Well, that spiritual gift that Apostle Paul wants to bring is not other than the gospel of Jesus Christ.

As we know, the book of Romans, Apostle Paul closely and in detail explains about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Because as we know, Pastor Paul has not been beginning, has not gone to see the church in Rome yet.

And he wants to lay the foundation as he goes there, as he tried to serve the church, and he wants to share the gospel of Jesus Christ working together with the church of Rome.

That is why he wants to explain about the gospel in detail.

Because especially in Rome, the people in Rome, they probably do not well know about the Jewish religion and the Old Testament and all that sort of comes as a background of the gospel.

Now, the Apostle Paul says, out of many gifts, the gospel is the greatest gift a person can have.

Why?

Because in verse 16, I'm sorry, it says, for I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jews and to the Gentiles.

Look closely, it says the gospel is a power of God.

It's the powerful thing because the gospel can transform a person.

Gospel can bring one person that ought to go to hell, will give eternal blessing that will go to the heaven.

And he will bring the salvation, which is an eternal change for a person, not for the Jews, but also for the Gentile who mostly lives in Rome.

Now the gospel is power.

As I know for many of us, you probably know, maybe you yourself, by the power of the gospel that our lives have been transformed.

But look, the more important layer of this gospel he introduces here and here in chapter one is the layer of faith.

Because in the later chapter of Romans, Apostle Paul explains that the power of the gospel can be displayed through the grace which you find through the faith.

And that is why in today's passage, Apostle Paul repeatedly talks about faith in verse 8. Apostle Paul is praising the people in Rome of their faith and their faith has been renowned all around the world.

And verse 12, another time, mentions the faith and also in verse 17, he ends today's text in a faith and righteous shall live by faith.

Now as powerful as gospel is, faith is also very powerful.

When you have faith, just like in verse 8, because of their faith, although the church in Rome were persecuted, they were able to overcome and they were able to sustain their faith.

And Apostle Paul knew this because he himself, through the persecution he had to go through, because he has faith, because he had faith, he was able to overcome all the hindrances and yet he was continuing on his journey of faith.

Now, let us hold on to the power of the gospel.

And through the power of the gospel, our lives can be changed.

And how can we make that practical in our lives? It's by having faith.

And we know by faith that we are saved.

And by faith, we can overcome any challenges or any hindrances or struggles that we may have.

Because we have faith in Jesus Christ, who is a victor. He is a mighty name of the Lord that he has given us through the name of Jesus Christ. And you can have victory today.

Think about places in the world where the gospel is spreading rapidly. Ask God how you can best pray for these areas?

Now verse 17, it reads like this. God has revealed his righteousness to those who have faith and by faith from first to last, he says here, but the original text, it can be interpreted first faith to the end faith, which means that apostle Paul is encouraging the readers to have a more faith, deeper faith, your faith will grow and improve by time by time. And then you'll find God's righteousness and God's power to reveal in your life.

Now this first says the righteous will live by faith is introduced in Book of Hosea, but he mentioned in later in Galatians and Hebrews.

Now, the reason why it's mentioned so many times in the New Testament is faith is very important as we walk this faith, as we will have this faith in spiritual walk so i pray that today that your faith will grow and we experience the power of the gospel in your life today let's pray.

4. Closing Prayer

Lord father god lord thank you for the wonderful gift that you're giving us the gift of salvation the gift through the gospel and gift that we may be able to practically exercise and enjoy this salvation through the faith Lord.

i pray that everyone who listens to this, their faith will grow. their faith will be greater faith Lord. they will experience the greater power of Jesus Christ in their life lord father. the holy spirit will help them Lord.

thank you lord jesus. in jesus name we pray. amen.
