Discord over Jesus (John 7:25-36) Living Life 2025/01/25 Daily Devotional Bible Study
Welcome to living life
this past week Where did you find God's love and intervention in your life
This past few days when did you stop and think about heaven?
Where will we meet Jesus face to face?
Today's passage describes the contrast between the religious leaders and Jesus
between earthly life and spiritual life and about who will enter into heaven.
So let's turn to the scriptures for the day
Discord over Jesus
John Chapter seven verses twenty five to thirty six.
25 At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, "Isn't this the man they are trying to kill? 26 Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Christ? 27 But we know where this man is from; when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from." 28 Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, 29 but I know him because I am from him and he sent me." 30 At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his time had not yet come. 31 Still, many in the crowd put their faith in him. They said, "When the Christ comes, will he do more miraculous signs than this man?" 32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him. 33 Jesus said, "I am with you for only a short time, and then I go to the one who sent me. 34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come." 35 The Jews said to one another, "Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? 36 What did he mean when he said, 'You will look for me, but you will not find me,' and 'Where I am, you cannot come'?" |
We probably know Jesus as humble gentle leader who led by love
but wherever he went he shook up the people's minds and challenged the status quo in order to bring the kingdom of God that is upside down.
What it did according to today's passage was a good example
there were murmuring and whispering among the crowd because Jesus was speaking publicly in the Jerusalem temple and the religious leaders were quiet.
Have the authorities really concluded that he is the messiah?
And when they say authorities we're talking about the Pharareses and leaders of Sainhedrin and those people who belong to them No it was because it was not their time yet was Jesus's time to speak.
And Jesus now openly declared
that he was from the father and he was carrying the father's authority.
Yes you know me and you know where I am from I'm not here on my own authority but he who sent me is true You do not know him but I know him because I'm from him and he sent me.
28 Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him,
29 but I know him because I am from him and he sent me."
How offensive this is she is also saying to the religious leaders that they do not know God.
No wonder they tried to seize him.
Still many in the crowd believed in him
While the religious leaders could not believe that Jesus was the messiah who came from the father because they did not know that he was born in Biplham they only knew that he grew up in Nazaret.
What good can come out of Nazar let alone Messiah right?
Um the messiah could not possibly come from that kind of town but
but some of the people in the crowd had a a softer heart and therefore had a better potential to believe in him.
Jesus cried out not only because there was there were noises from the crowd but he was declaring
the truth of God to all people and he's declaring the truth
to all people today and we have years to hear
and when Jesus declares the truth even about himself there are always the fruit.
People put their faith in him
but some of them had a shallow level faith and they were attributing it to the signs and wonders Jesus performed which was only one of the evidences that he was the Messiah.
When the Messiah comes
will he perform more science than this?
Do we believe only when God does miracle acts
Do we quickly doubt him
for his goodness or his loving kindness when the dry season comes and we don't see the miracles anymore this is not to judge or rebuke It is only to allow us an opportunity to check our hearts.
By the way Jesus told the religious leaders the Pharases and the leaders of Sonhedron that soon they will not be able to find him even if they looked for him.
Jesus said you will not be able to come to where he would be the heaven because of their hard heartedness
that failed to seek God and obey.
I so badly want to be where Jesus is don't you?
Even if it means much inconvenience having to give up my pride being hated by people or suffering I want to be where Jesus says
but just like you my will is weak I cannot live according to his truth and his will even as I want to there are times when I read the Bible
it is tasteless rather than honey on my lips I wonder if you have that experience yourself.
So we need the Holy Spirit our great helper our counselor our tutor and we need to be with God daily throw him
we need to experience him daily and it may take small steps each day to turn to his word and prayers more in order to have that intimacy with him.
Our love will grow more as we deny ourselves and follow him against our old self.
Our faith will grow stronger as we allow him to purify and sanctify us.
And when we love Jesus more we'll be humbly seeking his will reflect on ourselves but we failed and turned from it.
We will not judge others based on our own standards but lift them up in pairs loving and forgiving.
And it's not the perfection but the direction we're headed that is important.
I emphasize obedience and faith action so much because it's a vital sign that we have a relationship with Jesus Christ right?
So we can experience Heaven on Earth while we're living and enter into the eternal home one day.
So let us pray
Heavenly Father
you are declaring your truth in the nations today and in our lives like you did when you were walking on Earth.
Let our ears be attentive to your voice
Let our hearts spell down before you out of love
and help us trust you
even when you're not performing miracles in our lives
help us fall in love with you more so we'll gladly follow you in our thoughts, words, decisions, and relationships.
We desperately want to be where you are.
Please sanctify us and prepare us for heaven.
In the precious name of Jesus we pray
Amen
